Wow! Two of those mounted cranes downtown. Lots of places to eat, and not the starving college kid type....sushi, Korean Bbq, slightly high-end Mexican, etc. Kind of different. Of course, 20 years ago, I always heard AU was unrecognizable back then. First time back in ~12 years.
Tried to drive around the stadium, but could not. Wife got mad at me too for looking at the scenery
No Mr. Gatti's :(

Was that the one in the old Godfather's Pizza? I even filled out the I-9 there, but only worked a day. (Worked at Godfather's in Fairhope) This was back in the days of no car....the horror!

It was down from Momma Goldbergs across from the business building.

Fond memories of Roosters.
I had Dr. Snyder for one of my MIS classes. We had group projects for our final, and he set aside the last two class days for presentations (there were maybe 5 or 6 groups total).
He told us if we all got our presentations done on Tuesday, that on Thursday class would meet at Roosters and he would buy the first pitcher.
We did, and he did.

Gattis was off-campus. Off of S. Gay St? Kind of behind FIJI. By Hardees.
I spent a lot of evenings there! Good deal for poor track athletes that needed carbs!

It has been a few years since I have walked around downtown. Is the "downtown" area expanding behind McDonald's?

So many places no longer around campus.
When I was first at AU in the mid 90s, there was a Milo's on West Magnolia. Brand X Pizza up on College had a "Wings and Things" deal where you got a medium 2 topping pizza and a dozen wings for I want to say $14. Buffalo Connection at the intersection of Shug Jordan and Wire Road.
I'm lucky that I lived at the old CDV Extension and was a pre-engineering major that had to walk daily to Broun Hall, Parker Hall, etc. Otherwise my freshman 15 would have been the freshman 50.

Buffalo Connections had the best wings. 2005ish seems to be the break between old Auburn and commercial Auburn.

I was always a Chuck's BBQ guy. I worked at the Auburn one for a year or so.

Always loved that place. I didn't enjoy the crippling diarrhea that came the second I put the bone down though.

I was in E308. Lived there in 1992-93! Good memories of that place

I seem to remember this. Was that directly across from the business building beside Arby's?
I was there from 92-96. Every time I'm on campus I see new stuff. What they've done out towards Opelika is amazing. None of that stuff was there in the 90's.

That was my freshman year and sounds about right, Campus and surrounding areas are totally different now.

Byron's is far superior so that isn't all that surprising.

I'm a current student and I am dreading when all those "luxury" student housing high-rises downtown are abandoned and left to rot 15 years down the road because they're all vacant. There is no way that Auburn will ever fill all those rooms unless we balloon to UGA's enrollment size. Had a city councilman come speak at my fraternity to campaign for reelection and I asked him why he's okay with destroying downtown's charm and his answer was a roundabout and half-assed way of stating the obvious; it's money, and they don't give two shits about downtown or Auburn in general.
