ATLANTA - Eleven years after the day that changed her life forever, Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster is calling for support to drain Georgia's Lake Lanier.

On July 6, 2012, Foster's 11-year-old son Kile Glover was riding on an inner tube on the lake when he was hit by a jet ski.

After weeks in the hospital, Glover died from his injuries. A family friend was convicted for the boy's death and sentenced to four years in prison.

They can wear stillsuits like on Arrakis and make sure the water stays in the tribe when an atlantian dies. They’ll be alright

I understand why this woman would propose such a drastic measure.

But this is something where you have to look at the numbers. There are what, hundred thousand that safely enjoy the lake every year? 1/100,000 is not worth the money and issues this would take nor would it eliminate even a fraction of the safety issues boaters face in the water.

I agree, it's stupid. But stupidest? A newbie here said we should build a new stadium and get rid of JHS.

Lake Lanier was built in the '50s, JHS in 1939.

I think stupidest is up for grabs.

They get drunk in the park and try to swim to islands in the middle of the lake and drowned. At least five per year.

I’d argue building a new stadium is far less absurd than draining a lake in Georgia.

Especially draining it over irresponsible behavior in the waters.

Lanier is my authority on lake Lanier btw. Let the hook get wet.

I was a newbie got drunk and went kayaking after it rained. That was dangerous as frick. I probably fell off four times going down rapids causing my feet and legs to get skinned and cut on boulders for rock that made the creek bed as I clung to the kayak the rest of the way through fast waters.

That easily could’ve been my head bouncing off a boulder before given the chance to cling to my kayak for dear life.

My feet are bloody sore just from thinking about that experience.

Let’s change gears a little bit:

Steele Alabama is probably going to intentionally get flooded to allow for hydroelectric dams built by Alabama Power. The mayor’s house is projected to be under water once it happens and there is nothing he or the residents can do about it other than accept a market rate check.

As someone that has 1 set of keys and 2 pair of Maui Jim's at the bottom of that lake I support this.

Exactly. People grieve tragic deaths in often stupid and incomprehensible ways. Some try to get back at what they perceive to be the reason that their child was lost. This is one of those cases where clearly she’s trying to “right” her “wrong”.

The lake (nor millions of fish and macroinvertebrates) didn't do anything to that kid . . . it's was a jet ski?

It was a jet ski driven by one of his friends/relatives who was drinking and had zero boating experience. Swerving in and out of his wake trying to get as close to him as they could to scare him off the tube being pulled by the boat they rented.

Then he got too close, lost control and ran him over and killed him. Not a ghost, a underwater city, a floating stick or Y2K. It was their own stupidity

I remember in 2007 a large part of Lanier was essentially 'drained" from the drought. My boat stayed in a wet slip in Aqualand and was sitting on the lake bottom.

It was some of the best fishing I have ever experienced in my life. I loved every second of it. I had 77 trips in a row where my clients caught over 100 fish in a 8 hour trip. On the 78th day, they only caught 92 which broke the streak

It truly was like shooting fish in a barrel.
