Did Chizik leave Malzahn more than TT left Chizik?

What is everyone's opinion on the current state of the roster this spring, as compared to four years ago when Chizik took over? I remember GC's first spring, Auburn was very thin across the board, but especially at on the OL and DL. We didn't have enough offensive linemen to really scrimmage, and we were equally as thin on the DL (Fairley was a newcomer and whitaker/carter hadn't enrolled yet).
From a depth standpoint, we seem to be in better position... unfortunately, the players we do have on campus have not been developed into SEC-caliber contributors. The players Tuberville left chizik were in much better shape to compete at a high level (2010 seemed to prove this). There also isn't a Ben Tate currently on the roster.
What are your thoughts?

More depth and about equal talent IMO.

true, but for the sake of the argument, he's not someone Chizik 'left' Malzahn since he signed in GM's first class.
i'd also add, Tate was a fairly established SEC back by the spring of 2009... and well on his way to being drafted... AU doesn't have anyone like that currently in the backfield (granted, Payne could develop into that).

Whitaker and Carter didn't come until after GC's first year. We were very thin in his first spring.

Deeper on the o line for sure, after 2010 we didn't have any upperclassman.

True... The DT rotation in 09 was Ricks, Fairley, Blanc, Dolittle(maybe?)... clayton was constantly hurt.

Right now his is as much Gus' talent as Chizik's on O.
WR corp seems to be better than when Chizik arrived. OL is deeper. DL is deeper but lacks talent. LB corp is worse than it was under Tubs. We also have no safties because Eugene did not bother to recruti that position.

When he left? we only had Bynes and Stevens didn't we? I remember dressing like 3 scholly linebackers against ark in 2009.

Yeah, the LB situation now is better than it was in 2009... we started a walk-on from Arkansas in 09 (after freeman was suspended).
Outside of Bynes and Stevens, no other LB signed by Tuberville contributed.

Adam Herring, IIRC. I think he was #31.

that's him. couldn't remember the name... his dad was DC at arkansas... he may still be on the cowboys staff.

Do you not remember the crap offense that was on display in 2008? Tate had a whopping 664 yards in 2008 with a 4.18 ypc average. Kodi's was at 4.19. He wasn't on anyone's draft board.

Tate was really close to declaring after 08.

Are you saying that's better than what we have now?

and would've likely been drafted... he had 1900 yards and 14 TDs in his first three years... nothing earth shattering, but he was a decent college back with good size/speed ratio.

quote:What's that have to do with his draft stock? He graduated May of 2009. He would be playing under his 3rd OC in as many years. And if he/the offense had another similar showing in 2009, then his 900 yds in 2007 falls further in the rearview mirror.

This is actually a perplexing thread. I'm gonna go with what Chiz left Malzahn bc our players are experienced at being pussies. That's about it.

As bad as Chizik and his staff were at coaching, they consistently brought in some of the best players in the country, according to the recruiting rankings. Top 5-10 classes every year.
Tuberville didn't leave Chizik crap.
So I disagree.
