So why would Derek Mason take a $400K pay cut for a lateral move? Forget the internet rumors and butthurt players, is that not an indication that something was/is very wrong at Auburn?

Serious question.

Yes it was.

We had no intention of firing him and he got out as fast as he could.

He first resigned without the OSU job. So let’s count, 2 OC, 1 Dc, WR Coach, 2 d-line coaches. Only the Auburn and Boise Guys, plus Will Friend remain. So 6 coaches gone. For folks feeling sorry for Hars, did he care about Corns or BoBos family and career?

Three words: Hostile Work Environment.

Why would he want to be here? Look at what Harsin is having to deal with.

Yeah, Harsin lost a lot of games in his first year, but the character attacks on him have been sickening.

Atleast the board could man up and say we made a mistake by hiring Leath, who hired Greene, who hired Harsin. It’s like the power people stay asleep at the wheel until things go south. They have no issues slandering harsin, but don’t have the balls to go out and hire the best football mind available which is Freeze.

Harsin literally has zero responsibility in all of this to some people. It’s really weird.

He created ALL of the circumstances himself. Every single one of them.

Mason left because he couldn't work another day with Harsin; after having promised to be here 2 years.

Sounds like Mason and Harsin didn’t get along. You remember. Mason…. The failed Vandy HC and the defensive coordinator we all hated year long until the Bama game?

There’s no one here that knows what’s going on behind the scenes. As much as Jang and the rest of these internet drama clowns claim, insinuate, or accuse, the reality is that they don’t know anything more than my dog does. We made a very large investment in Harsin. Whether you like him or not, that commitment deserves three years worth of effort. So, unless there’s some tape of him banging the assistant, then he deserves another two years to build his program.

When he got fired from Vandy, how did his settlement go?

Is it possible he gets paid the same as long as he is "seeking" work?

I just remember Bert was manipulating his contract in that way.

Which power people have slandered him and what untruth did they tell?

Except most of us didn’t. We hated his scheme, we didn’t hate his 2nd half adiustments. We didn’t hate the results. We didn’t hate how we got better from last year.

If anybody didn’t deserve so be fired it was Mason so bringing up that idiots like yourself didn’t like Mason from the beginning only hurts your argument.

Anybody that has paid any attention knows that Mason seriously disliked Harsin from a personal and professional standpoint. You don’t have to keep your head buried in the sand now.

I won't lie. During the Miss State game I hated his guts.

But to be fair, I think I hated everyone as that game went on...

Mason actually took at $600k pay cut…

Of his $3M 2 year deal, Mason was paid $1.3 last year and was set to make $1.7 next year.

Tate is saying Mason’s exit interview is one thing that blew this all up.

I would like to know as well. All other coaches that left seemed to be routine (fired or had better opportunities). Mason, though, took a pay-cut and didn't seem to gel with Harsin. I would be interested in knowing what went down.

Buried in the sand? I literally said that this was the case. I also said that I don't care. It appears that the Mason and Bobo hires were to placate the same good-old-boy boosters that are now running this bullshite smear campaign to get rid of the coach that isn't listening to them.

The man deserves three years to do his thing. Let him put in place the people that he wants and let him go.

Nah I’m over that. I’m already over the “deserved” language as well. Get him some money and get him the frick out. “His thing” sucks.

If JGT is right then it sounds like Mason did Auburn a solid favor pointing out Harsin was unfit during the exit interview.

Sure it is. Every single time.

Spend 10 minutes and go read a Boise State forum. It's the exact same story. Toxic coaching environment, he can only work with a select handful of people, coaching turnover is his thing. That is absolutely horrible from a long-term perspective...you would understand that if you actually thought logically. "His guys" are fish out of water recruiting down here, so what is your actual answer here? Load up more of them and "let's ride" LOL? Then what, they have to stay here forever, and if/when someone leaves, you're playing this same game where you're praying and hoping he finds a replacement that not only has the skillset to succeed in the SEC, but who also doesn't end up "not meshing" with his abusive personality?

I am not saying you are right or wrong, but do you think that is even possible at this time?

Harsin would be nuts not to be looking for an escape hatch at this point.
