Defensive Rebounds

Pearl harps about rebounding but AU has consistently given up a large number of offensive rebounds, especially later in the season. We always give up some rebounds from challenging shots at the rim and giving up good rebounding position. This of course creates contested shots and blocks, but the block numbers are down (another discussion) and it seems we are getting more fouls lately.
Broome IMO is struggling across the board on this end of the floor. I'm sure it's due to injury and fatigue, but it's very low energy compared to earlier in the year and he's getting killed by teams that really make an effort to throw bodies at the glass.
Chaney has been getting pushed around the last couple of games and I think it's affecting other parts of his game.
Cardwell - Good but needs help
Turtle - not the help Cardwell needs
Howard - Can actually rebound
We play a winning strategy against Bama (running them off the 3Pt line) but still lose because we don't rebound IMO and Broome plays soft against their drives letting them see too much rim. It's becoming a viable game plan against Auburn to just get balls up and send bodies to crash. 2nd chance points often come with fouls, and a reason whey we have been playing with foul trouble lately. This team is good enough to cover up some deficiencies, but defensive rebounding needs to tighten up. I'd like to see more disciplined interior defense to maintain optimal rebounding position. Then we just need more from both Broome and Chaney.

Ok thanks.
Maybe overall we aren’t a good rebounding team. Bruce’s teams have always gave up rebounds on defense because of how intense the defense plays man up. They play all they way through the shot with basically all defenders trying to block the shot and if they are in the paint the bigs help with a shot block attempt. We block a lot of shots. But we also give up rebounds.
So for me it’s part scheme and part that maybe we just aren’t a great rebounding team. But we have to look at reality. aTm is the best offensive rebounding team in the country. Bama isn’t far behind.

Trying not to get caught up in the SEC hype, but this isn't to be understated. We'll get a relative breather playing outside the SEC.

I get that's the way we play.. But it worked better earlier in the year when the unit as a whole was playing with more intensity. My point being that Broome isn't bringing that energy, so we are now getting it both ways. The last 2 games, drivers have been attacking Broome with more success but he's still out of position if the shot misses so 2nd chance opportunities are frequently there. Not sure if you have been watching, but not being a good rebounding team is beginning to cost us games. We are in the part of the season where losing games for these reasons will have... more of a lasting impact.

Another counter to teams crashing the glass to get out and effing run the court when you do secure a rebound. But we never or rarely do that

We did play two of the best rebounding teams back to back. TAMU is #5, Bama is #17, we are all the way in the second page at #73.

A&M is the best offensive rebounding team in the country.

Broome had 14 rebounds in T-town and he had like 7 in Neville. Then throw in his poor FT shooting the last few games. It’s obvious he is either injured, or he let off the gas for some other reason.

He’s been playing more and more minutes. I think he is best around 28-32 minutes a game. Granted if we are playing from behind it’s hard to get him out.

We are nowhere near athletic enough to play like that

TAMU gave us rebounding clinic.
The thing I noticed was that when the ball was in the air toward the basket the whole team was watching it and getting in position. AU not so much so.

I pulled up the teams that are ranked well in the rebounding department.
I can probably fill out Auburn's bracket very just by seeing this list.
A&M has 498 offensive rebounds this season.

I actually think we are. Certain lineups against certain teams. And when Haad is in at the point

Really the only “non athletic” guy on the court is Broome and he’s the best player and a natural rebounder. Miles seems to be a good backside rebounder. But other than that for guys that get heavy minutes we are just average. Has nothing to do with athleticism. Some of it is want to, some of it is style, some defensive approach

Broome is low athleticism, cardwell seems to get gassed easily, Denver is not a great athlete or natural point guard, pett and Kelly are athletic enough but don't make great decisions with the ball. I would love to get back to running more but don't think this is the team to do it
