According to 247 sports from 2018-2023. Ole Miss only had a class higher rated than ours 1 year, and that was 2021. HOWEVER, Gus and Harsin mismanaged the talent leaving us 5 times more destitute than Ole Miss. Several of our classes don't even exist. It's all about roster management, but we shouldn't ever step on the field with less talent than Ole Miss

Nail on the head!

Maybe, you can’t discount Lane has his players, he has a QB with time in his offense. That goes a long way in executing plays and can trump talent sometimes. I don’t think we are as far off from others as we may think.

I know people like to shite on Gus because they hate him, our roster wasn’t destitute when he left anywhere but at offensive line. If the line was graded at a B and Bo Nix wasn’t moving around the whole time he played at Auburn, Gus would have continued winning 9 games a year. The defense had plenty of talent all over and was well coached, we had some very good running backs, Bo Nix is having great seasons with another team and our receivers were pretty damn solid.

The issues are that Gus was a 9 win coach in his situation here (with his top rivals being the top two teams in the country) and Harsin didn’t recruit at all, hence where we are.

In pure talent, we are only behind a few teams in the SEC and Ole Miss isn’t one of them. Someone did nail it on the head by saying that several teams are far more in sync than ours. Those other teams have talent that has been together several years and are inserting additional puzzle pieces instead of having to replace most of a team at once.

Gus won 9 games in three out of 8 seasons. Stop pretending he was some Bo Pelini. Kevin Steele gets way more credit than Gus for 2019 anyways. Kevin Steele was the best thing Gus ever did and even that was probably forced on him by the PTB.

He runs a north-south power running attack and he didnt care to keep the OL in top shape. What sense does that make? Who cares if he can stockpile defensive ends and inflate our recruiting records with a bunch of fluff if he cannot keep a Qb in a rhythm?

Having the go-long guy, and the bubble screen guy, and the jet sweep guy was so grand.

Im no Gus hater just a preacher of facts. I appreciate the ups that the Gus era gave us, but how many QBs did he fail to evaluate or turn into adequate starters? What about not signing an OL for like 3 classes because he couldn't figure a way to stop the negative recruiting. We're still dealing with the lack of bodies even today. Gus did some amazing things ,but his inability to recruit that position doomed his offense. Look at Bo Nix with an OL at Oregon. You mentioned only being behind a few teams but you're forgetting that our class from just 2 years ago when Harsin showed up LITERALLY DOES NOT EXIST. That's why we're in the portal brother. It started with Gus, and was exacerbated by Potato clown. I remember when we started fighting for OL scraps against Missouri, vandy, and Miss st, which is fine if you at least bring in the NUMBERS and develop, BUT he still couldn't even do that. What we did when Hugh showed up was the first time in years young, athletic, OL out of highschool came to Auburn since like Calvin Ashley. Think about that

Ole Miss literally grabbed a QB we wanted in the portal and just stashed him

Sanders wanted Auburn….but Auburn did not want Sanders. Too many concerns about his health plus his NIL demands were crazy.
He went to Ole Miss because in the end they were the only ones that would give him a spot and Gundy told him to go pound sand, he wasn’t coming back….OM didn’t pull some coup against us

Apparently they did. They have Jaxson Dart and Spencer Sanders (and get this: and another transfer QB from LSU). We have Thorne and Ashford. I showed some eye-popping QB stats recently if you want to take a gander at them.

The same organization that supposedly has very little NIL which is the same reason Kiffin was flirting with us was willing to outbid Spencer to sit on their bench?

I call bullshite.

Yep... Gus never could keep good offensive linemen. Not sure why.

To run his offense in the SEC you need a good line and a QB who can both run decently and throw a solid deep ball.

2013 was due to Greg Robinson who could open a hole against any team any time. Harsin was blind to the O-line problems.

Greg Robinson
I specifically remember seeing him fall and get up by doing some kind of backwards roll to a standing position in full pads. Dude was absurdly nimble.
