Posted in another thread but thought it would be interesting discussion here

CAP between the 20s is an elite back. When they don't go all out in the box like they do in the redzone, he does extremely well finding something

Breakdown of non RZ opportunities for CAP

Format ( Yds/Att - # of carries in range)

Negative Yards - 1
0-2 Yards - 2
3-4 Yards - 4
5-10 Yards - 4
10+ Yards - 1

On none Redzone sets of downs (resets every 1st down or punt/turnover/FG) Auburn registered a 1st down on 7/9 sets of downs in which CAP registered a carry

On none Redzone short yardage situation (4 yards or less to 1st down) CAP was 6/8
*one of missed was converted on 3rd down

That has been pretty consistent so far this season and combine it with his ability to receive out the backfield + above average Pass pro he is a great back

8 catches for 99 yards... fifth on the team in number of catches (tops for a non WR and more than melvin ray, marcus davis, tony stevens).

CAPs pass catching ability has been a nice surprise this season, imo.

It is reasonable to assume some of CAPs issues are directly related to the OL problems. B

If CAP was getting the holes from last years OL and the blocking of Prosch, he'd probably have close the most rushing yards in the league. He's still only third in the league right now with 664 through 6 games. There were so many runs last year where Mason didn't get touched until he got to the second or even third level because of our blocking. We're just not getting it done to the same extent this year.

He has also caught 8 of the 9 targets

Of the 8 :

5 went for 1st downs
6 went for 10+ yards
1 Went for 5-10
1 went for less than 5

This is the problem. In the red zone with less field to defend it is easier to commit more people to the box. We are not blocking them well as of today.

CAPs running style isn't suited for people overloading the box. He isn't going to make someone miss he tries to find hole . Unfortunately in the RZ there aren't holes with this line

RewaThing the MSU game he just doesn't have that quick twitch juke. Roc Thomas looks like a definite answer or aide to CAP.

He doesn't need it outside of the redzone. We block well enough that when the safeties aren't crowding the box he can find a hole somewhere

He's a great runner but there is no reason we shouldn't be giving some of the other guys carries. He's not an automatic - Trey Mason - TD maker so why not give other guys some carries. I think ROC and Barber need more carriers. Grant could use a few as well. My point - CAP is a very good back - but we have others that seem to be very legit.
