Zero evidence here. I always felt like he was a sensitive soul. He needs more encouragement mentally and lacks(ed) the killer attitude you associate with dudes that are built like him. Bill is not a traditional football coach, so it could be a good fit.

To be fair he played like he possessed the heart of the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz before he met the great and powerful Oz. He was young so we can give him a pass. Maybe he grew up but his time and lack of production at Auburn lies squarely on his shoulders.

Cowart was a classic example of the physically gifted high school kid that was reluctant to evolve his game for the next level

On my Madden franchise I got an all AU DL

DE- Dee Ford
DT- Derrick Brown
DT- Marlon Davidson
DE- Carl Lawson

I also got Josh Bynes and obviously Jonathan Jones on D

Offense I added Kerryon Johnson, Darius Slayton, Braden Smith, Chandler Cox, and CJ Uzomah is my TE2

Oh and, Daniel Carlson and some various other backups

“Coming out, I was like, ‘I’m going to be the next Jadeveon Clowney,’” Cowart told the group of three reporters Saturday in Indianapolis. “That’s what I thought. He was the end coming out going to the league when I was going into college. The expectations, I didn’t really understand it. I didn’t know it came with it. I didn’t even know what adversity was. It was just, Oh, I’m a good high school player. I think it transfers to college. I didn’t know the preparation. I didn’t know that just because we go through something in the meeting room, that don’t mean that you just turn your brain off.

quote:

“Really, just am I going to take ownership or am I going to point the finger at somebody else -- is it this person or that person?” Cowart said. “In reality, it was just me. I didn’t have the I.Q. coming out. I was bigger and stronger than everybody. … I didn’t understand that at the time. I’m just thinking, you wake up, practice a little bit and it happened in the game. I didn’t know the preparation that it took to be good on Saturday and Sunday.”

AL.com article about Cowart's time at Auburn

This sums it up pretty well. He had all the physical tools, but didn't "realize" what it took to get to the next level. Add that he was a big fish in a small pond in high school and Garner's coaching style wasn't a fit for his personality and it made for a bad fit.

It's sad he never reached his potential at Auburn.

I'd take Dontavious Russell over Davidson at DT.

I forgot to give RG credit for Russell. He was an excellent college player for his position.

I can respect that answer from him. It’s refreshing to see someone take accountability.

Im wondering the same. I didn’t get to watch the game. His stats say 2 tackles. Did he play many snaps?

Definitely nice to not get deflections and excuses. I hope he has finally turned on the mental part of the game because he's always had the physical tools. I don't remember him getting in any trouble in school and his answer points to him showing some maturity, so I'll certainly be rooting for him.

That’s a very mature answer. Glad to see he’s turned it around.
