I am in. Going to set up a page selling those tonight. You want a commission for the idea?

I want Lanning over Kiffin. Don’t know why I’m being so Fickell after riding the Lane Train all week. I just have a feeling. Someone bring some reason here because I think it’s going to be Kiffin in the end

Lanning is a huge risk. He is 1-2 vs teams with a pulse. Got lucky getting Bo if they didn’t they would’ve lost to UCLA and Washington State.
Don’t forget Cristobal recruited extremely well there.

I think the ones with the money will wait and think about it after tonight's game and back out after State beats him. He will be 8-4 at that point and really nothing to hang this season on. At that point his entire OM career will be beating a 4 loss Arkansas team last year and a bad Kentucky team this year.

You don’t back out after a bad game. There’s clear reasons as to why he might not have been prepared… he’s shown success before and paired with Auburn he would be able to build a really successful program.

In a 12 team playoff, portal, and NIL era you want Kiffin (and a great D-coordinator).
In the old school BCS or 4 team playoff you might give the edge to program builder/recruiter Lanning.

quote:I've never been in. He's never worked out anywhere. He's in his 3rd year and still doesn't have his act together. He's has wins but not the type that will keep him employed by a top school. OM isn't going to fire him for losing to top teams as long as he win 8 to 10 games a year. That will not cut it at Auburn and that's all he has proven to be no matter where he's been.
You don’t back out after a bad game.
He's not going to change when he gets to Auburn and if he has to be told how he can coach (not to go for it at dumb times and he has to hire this DC and staff) and not make dumb calls then he's not a great coach.
When you make a splash hire, you hire someone you expect to come in and run the football program to an elite level without having to be bosses and controlled constantly. Especially with the figures they are throwing around.

I understand your point but let me just say I would be pleased with a few 10-win seasons in a row… haven’t had that kind of consistency since Dye

quote:I would too but I want us to aim for someone that coaches up the whole team and doesn't make calls like he's playing a Playstation. Someone that I expect to last and not have us back here in 4 or 5 years. We have to play UGA and Bama every year. He just seems immature as a person and HC.

I like Freeze because his entire team plays above their level more than not and he is an all around coach. Not just one-sided. Their teams against Arkansas shows the difference in styles and their coaching abilities. Plus Freeze can be gotten for cheaper with little to no buyout.

So how do you feel about OM's beat down...
Does it affect Lane's decision at all??
Does it change how much we are willing to pay?
Or is it a meaningless loss??

Meaningless loss. Remember he tried to keep tge DC who did much better and OM wouldn't pay him. Part of Lane's frustration there

Doesn't change my feelings. Arkansas could easily be a 9 win team if the ball bounced differently in a few games. Ole Miss goes on the road has 3 turnovers and a ton of distractions leading up to the game. Who cares.

Lane was distracted on the sidelines
You do realise they could have had 2 extra touchdowns if it weren't for penalties?
I don't think this game impacts anything though - coaches have bad games. I think we still go after him

If Cohen was already set on him, I don't think it changes anything.

Let’s look back and remember the search two years ago. Steele, Christibal, Venables, Freeze, Kiffin, Napier, Bill Clark and the mystery candidate Harsin.
This year, Kiffin, Freeze, Fickell, Grimes, Dabo.
I still believe it is Lane, but I am hoping for a late change to Luke Fickell. The negative with him is he has not coached in the south, but he does recruit the south.

They had 2 TDs called back 3 turnovers, and still ended up with 703 yards of total offense. The only thing that concerns me is the defense.

Remember OM wouldn't pay his preferred DC so he left
I will take my chances with a guy who can put up those offensive numbers, it's been a long time for us

Also something like 450+ yards rushing, in a loss. Give us lane!

I just hope Cohen is smart enough to see him for what he is and isn't setting up there making excuses to give him passes on all his flaws. If so none of this will matter. He won't be top 3 after the state game.

Not taking up for Lane.
I honestly could care less if we hire him or not. I trust the new admins.
But did you watch the game? Refs need to be investigated (not just this game but all season. The shenanigans are way more than coincidence and I am beginning to wonder if Sankey condones this trash because nothing gets done about it.
I think gambling is way too embedded in how they call games.
