Listening to Auburn Live. Jhead thinks Joe Whitt Jr. has entered the coaching chat.

As HC? That would be quite a stretch.

But if we’re going for guys with little or no HC experience, we could do worse. And you know the PTB would be united with him, unlike other candidates.

His dad was a legendary LB coach at Auburn, still works in TUF. He’s been an NFL DC (pass game coordinator at least) for the Packers, Browns, Falcons, and currently the Cowboys.

Apparently the president and AD have vetted a handful of the top boosters to give their list of top 5 candidates. But the president and AD will be making the decision.

He himself has auburn ties, too. JABA

Seems like a guy I’d love to have as DC but not as a first time head coach.

It’s exactly the opposite for me. I don’t want to hear that preachy mfer’s Jesus schtick while Auburn gets lambasted for giving him a second chance. He has shown poor decision making off the field and has zero championships to show for the recruiting classes he cheated his way to landing. I also seem to remember lots of discipline issues with his teams as well. Didn’t one of the Nkemdiche boys jump out of a hotel window or something? I’m not the one writing the checks, I just think Auburn can and should do better.

So the boosters are providing a list of candidates? Not sure if thats ideal.

I wonder how it works. Will they ask each of the power brokers to list their top 5, then go after whomever has the most support?

Lane, Deion, Lanning, Freeze should be the list. Grimes, Steele, Rhett, Whitt all sound like going cheap, pussy hires. Saving money for a buyout. Sick of that bullshite

Sounds like humoring them, which is all they should get out of all this, heard. Nothing more.

Exactly. They’re smart enough to do that, but also smart enough to let them know it’ll be decided internally.

Agreed. And I don’t think that’s the situation this time.

If we have gone through all this to hire Joe Whitt Jr I don’t even know what to say.

You would think after several bad to meh hires Auburn could at least have learned what NOT to do and maybe get this one right.

So much hope this would be different but its starting to feel just like all other Auburn coaching searches.

They are paying the money. They should have a say even if it's just to create a list.

I think they should hire and outside unbiased firm to hire the best overall candidate or at least make a list in order.

Give them a bonus after so long depending on the success of the coach they pick. #1 is so much, #2 so much, and so on depending on who they pick from their list. Make it a business decision and not worry about the fans or media.

I talked to a guy today who said he will make his decision on ever getting season tickets again based on this hire.

I hope that's the case for many
