Caddilac SEC Teleconference

quote:

Cadillac Williams is speaking for the first time as Auburn's interim coach on Wednesday's SEC teleconference. Click refresh, will continue to update...

** It's been a bittersweet 48 hours. Appreciate what Coach Harsin did for Auburn the last two year. Appreciate this opportunity. It's an honor. This school as given me everything. We are excited to play MSU.

** We found out around 11:30 a.m. Monday about Harsin's firing and it hit the fan from there.

** Around noon got to meet with Rich McGlynn and offered interim position. Thank God for the opportunity. It was a tough day for me but had an opportunity to address the team. Honored. Those players were excited. We're taking it one day at a time. This is not ideal but we are definitely looking forward to challenge.

** "I don't know if we're going to win a ballgame or not but one thing that will make me happy if we play good football and hard Auburn football." I want these kids to play hard and compete. I know the Auburn family will be proud of us.

** On being considered for permanent head coach: Honestly, I'm just trying to coach and win this football game for the Auburn family.

** On recruiting: Your dreams can come true at Auburn. Indebted to this school because it changed the trajectory of the Williams family. Every dream I wanted to accomplish, this place gave me the opportunity. A lot of guys came through here and were able to accomplish their dreams.

** First message to team: Two things. One thing I stressed was family. Two decades ago, that was one of the main reasons I chose Auburn, the Auburn family. The people between these walls make Auburn great. The second part was the hard work, blue collar mentality, relentless effort, finishing every play, never quit -- everything our creed stands for.

** It's been very emotional at times. This place is dear to my heart and has done so much for my family an I. Has changed my life in so many ways. To be able to give back to Auburn in this situation as a leader is heavy but I'm ready to give what I have to these players, coaches and the Auburn family. I love the game of football, getting a taste of what it takes to be a head coach, getting puled in a lot of different directions. Much busier, less sleep.

** On being first African American head coach: Just to hear that brings chills. Never thought in a million years that I would be in this position. It never crossed my mind. I got into coaching to change kid's lives. I know how important that is. So honored and grateful for this opportunity. Looking forward to challenge.

This right here is why I want whoever gets hired to keep him employed however long Caddy wants to stay. You can't buy the type of passion he or Trovon Reed have for Auburn and can go in to a kids house to convey that

Man reading all of that makes me very exited for Coach Caddy, I’m glad he was the one given the reigns for the remainder of the year.

I'm actually a little excited to watch the game! I wont even be that upset if we lose. At least I'll know everyone on that sideline wants to win!
And my petty azz thoroughly enjoyed unfollowing Harsin on twitter!

I want Caddy and Reed to go coach elsewhere and learn from the best.

Then I want them to return and bring all that new knowledge back to AU

It's a good idea to be cautiously optimistic, but this legitimately feels different. Auburn also doesn't normally fire coaches during the season and you just saw Chris Roberts go cold-blooded assassin this week and drop the hammer on a LOT of people.

The hiring of John Cohen amidst some influential peoples' backlash, is a signal. Cohen is not a yes man and he got into it with boosters at MSU - he is hardheaded. Then the report comes out that we actually tried to silently poach Hunter Yurachek at Arkansas before that. Again, these are big-game hunting moves.

None of this is as per normal Auburn script. This looks like a program that is fed up and is ready to start flexing it's muscle. This has been the talk for months now behind the scenes, and what you just saw this past week follows that path.

The Lane Kiffin hype is real. He already had support from one big booster before all this, and I'm not entirely certain of this but I've heard that Cohen may have tried hiring him once already at MSU before he landed at Ole Miss. These guys are going to go after a big hire this time and everything is lined up. Yes, you'll hear Jeff Grimes and Charles Kelly and company - I don't see John Cohen hiring any of these guys because so-and-so booster likes them, and I don't think you do what Roberts just did to make that type of move unless you just miss out on like 5 other targets. The hire is going through Roberts and Cohen.

I expect there might be some more silent candidates that aren't being talked about apart from KIffin, Deion, Freeze, Rhule, etc. that could get the job. But I think it's going to be a name coach and it's going to be a statement hire.

"Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders has been confirmed to be taking a flight tomorrow to Atlanta airport. Atlanta airport is the nearest major airport to Auburn University which is rumored to have ties to coach Prime." -Gianni Parello (247 sports) Twitter

Jville started a thread early Monday morning saying harsin would be fired. Folks refuted and they deleted his thread. Then harsin was fired about 4 hours later.

I'm waiting on Jville to tell us who the coach will be!
