They opted out, we scramble to get Citadel.

Whatever happened to Al Borges?

They opted out, picked up Oklahoma. Bowling Green finished ranked, giving Oklahoma an additional quality win, and a spot in the NC game.

Didn't he coach at UCLA recently?

Let's take a look at the following current HCs and they have been successful at different programs. They are not untested coordinators or HCs with just a couple of years experience and are in the Top 15 in winning % of active coaches.

Curt Cignetti - 12 years as a HC and right below Saban with the # of wins. currently at JMU

Chris Klieman -10 years as a HC and right below Curt and at KSU.

Lance Leipold - 16 years as HC currently at Kansas he has a better winning % than Kelly, Jimbo, Napier and Fickell and is below the two mentioned above in %.

I know we are joking around, but I'd keep Harsin before hiring Hilton or Grimes. Financially we just take that 30MM it would take to get them here and hire a senior advisor and beef up NIL.

Nope, because he left each program better than he found it

FLA went 7-5 his last year. He quit, citing health reasons. The Sporting News did an article on how he left the program, and it was not flattering:
quote:

After a three-month investigation, the Sporting News published an exposé—titled "How Urban Meyer broke Florida football"—suggesting that Meyer had created a toxic culture in the locker room at Florida and departed just before implosion.[63] The article quoted several Florida players who declared that Meyer developed a "Circle of Trust" that included only star players, and that those players received favorable treatment, including not having to complete workouts, lenient punishment, and hiding the player's positive drug tests from the public. Although Meyer stated: "I've never heard of Circle of Trust before in my life," former players contend it was the foundation of Florida's culture under Meyer.

At OSU, he took over after Tressel got caught paying players. OSU was good before Urban got there. Remind me again, why did he leave? Oh yeah, winning football games was more important than dealing with his wife-beating assistant coach. The OSU board put his arse on paid adminstrative leave, and he quit, again citing "health reasons", just before the board was about to fire him.

Jacksonville Jaguars? Went 2-11, got caught finger-banging a coed's brown eye in a bar. The owner of the team had this to say:
quote:

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan said that Meyer's behavior had been "inexcusable" and that Meyer "must regain our trust and respect".

After that, he assaulted his own kicker during practice. The owner then fired his arse. Urban went on to do an interview where he stated that he was battling depression.

Do you really want to win football games so badly, that you'd hire this ticking time bomb that has demonstrated a serious lack of moral fiber? To sum it up, Urban is POS human being that can coach football.

You got the point though. Two years removed from his last job, which was the OC of a high school team. Has never coached as a GA, assistant, coordinator, or head coach at a any of the 131 FBS schools.

But hey, why not throw some money at him, just to see if it works out? What could possibly go wrong?

They are doing a documentary on one of his teams, and it's not for their philanthropy. His resume on the field is unquestionable, I wouldn't even care if jumped to another job after a run at Auburn. But he has shown a pattern of very bad decision making. I couldn't see any circumstance where Auburn would hire him

Here's the thing. We, as a fanbase have been so beat down over the last few years that we are willing to sell our souls to win. I just not there. Some have a very moral objection to Freeze, but don't have a problem with Urban. Of the two, one has put his past behind him and been pretty clean while winning football games. The other....not so much. But here's the big underlying difference between those two coaches. One has something to prove, and would walk to Auburn to get the job. The other,..... you could offer him a mountain of money and make him the highest paid coach in the country and his record suggests that he'd quit for "health reasons" if another whiff of scandal came about.

All that being said, whoever we get will have a Herculean task dropped at their feet on day one. Between how Gus left the program, and what Harsin has done since, it's going to be a while before we see things turned around in a significant way. I'm not referring to money when I say that the next hire could be very costly, if we don't get it right. I'm old enough to remember the dark days of "nine in a row" streak to that team across the State. And, I can't even start to imagine losing 16 straight like TN did and the carousel of bad hires they went thru during that time.

I'm no fan of Saban, but don't even try to put him and Urban on the same level concerning morality. Urban had fricking serial killer on his team, supported wife beaters, and finger banged girls in public places that were younger than his daughter.

I think his biggest problem is that he believes that if he didn't see something he can't be held accountable for it. His next big problem is he seems to think that if he ignores a problem, it will just go away. It's like he's 55 going on 13

You are giving him too much credit. Urban is a snake who would sell his mother, to win a football game. As much as I'm against hiring Deion, due to his lack of experience, I'd take him in a heartbeat over Urban. Deion seems to posses a moral compass, teaches values off the field, and "walks the walk" of the things he says. Urban is just a bad human being that knows X's & O's.

Why Deion above Freeze?

Both can recruit, but one has a vast experience advantage. I mean, that part alone is nowhere near comparable. I just don't get why so many are so high on Deion. We don't even know if he can recruit very well at this level, because he's never done it. Hell, Gus gave us a bunch of top 10 classes and we still ended up in the Birmingham Bowl. Do you really want the world's best car salesman, being the crew chief for your NASCAR team?

That was just a convenient excuse invented by the CFB media and powers so they could set up the match they wanted instead of matching the two best teams.

It was a BS excuse from minute one, in the same category as the BS excuses the CFB media invented to award Miami the 1983 MNC.

Yup. Goal post consistently changed. That's why I am hoping NIL and 12-team playoff rekts the CFB we know. It was a system where only 5-6 teams could consistently have success.
