Don’t know if it has been posted yet, but…

Who was on Hoke’s list then?

I’ve been told time and time again on this board that Auburn is too good to hire coaches without P5 HC experience

The 4 mentioned are the 4 he’s heard most about from his people in Auburn.

This tells me it will be Jeff Grimes without a doubt. I don't hate it
Strongly oppose Deion Sanders though

Ugh
Looks like we’re going to end up with Grimes

Except we suck way more. There are not highs. We loss every OOC game to a Power 5 program. It takes a fricking miracle to beat a shitty Ga State and Missouri team and we are only one 4* recruit from being in the top 50 in the recruiting rankings. I mean we fricking suck at almost everything right now
Lets just say this coaching change was a total fail and move on
I will be glad when you guys figure out who the next head coach will be.

Luke is a head scratcher for me. Not that he is a bad coach, just seems like an odd fit. Wonder if OSU pissed him off?

Fickell doesn’t seem like a real possibility at all.

The cracks were already showing Gus’ last season. Got beat by freaking South Carolina for the first time since before any of our dads were alive.

Beat LSU at LSU and a top 10 Ole Miss, but yeah.

Mercer? Jacksonville State? There were some pretty shitty teams Gus barely beat or lost to.

What was Gus ranked when he was fired? 70th?

Agreed

Just seems completely out of left field.
I wonder what is behind the “Rhule isnt happening” talk. Seems like ww should at least approach him, unless he’s let us know he’s sitting 2023 out and counting his buyout bucks. I’ll

Could Fickell tap into the state of Ohio recruiting down here?

Hoke probably doesn’t know any better than the random people throwing names on this board. I’m sure he had Harsin pegged down months before a hire was made

Harsin will probably be the only head coach of Auburn since WWII to have a losing record here.
Harsin is going to be considered the worst AU coach of the modern era when he leaves. Malzahn won a NC as an OC here and went to the title game as a HC... he had a lot of ups and downs but it's not even close in terms of who had a better tenure.

I get those concerns, it’s just that with Auburn’s current predicament, I think we need to take a unique approach and try to find a rising star. I tend to think a lot of the candidates being thrown around, even the upper tier ones, would just fall into the Kirby-Saban vacuum with the auburn job. I think high level recruiting is the #1 trait we need, maybe targeting a rising star who seems to have “it” is a gamble but I think any hire is a gamble in our current state.
I don't understand your thought process. If you want a pie-in-the-sky "upside" kid who can recruit, then look at Glenn Schumann from UGA who at least knows this region and knows the landscape of the SEC (he worked at both Bama and Georgia). Hartline makes little to no sense as he's never coached anywhere outside Ohio State. He would get eaten up here, regardless of how promising he is.

As a general post, Auburn isn’t bad at hiring head coaches. I know there’s a lot of talk about “JABA” and the BOT/PTB ruining things in Auburn, but Auburn has only made two bad hires since damn near 1950…Doug Barfield and Bryan Harsin.
Sit back and think…that’s 8 coaches since damn near 1950.
I think Auburn will make the right hire this time.

I’m glad someone has faith because I sure don’t. I wish I wasn’t so cynical but it’s hard to have hope rn based on the track record of extending Gus prematurely, then surprisingly firing Gus after a Covid year, then hiring this potato head and leading us to where we are now.
