I don’t care if Steven is a disaster, if Bruce wants it, we should respect his opinion, no matter how driven by emotion it may be.

Emotions dont belong in this conversation dude.

For the record: I believe Bruce is a great basketball coach. I believe Bruce would just be another largely ineffective Senator. His impact will be minimal in that world, where in basketball he has done great things

Sorry to see this turn of events. His son will have to prove himself on his own.

Bruce's personality is vibrant on the court and on ESPN, so I think he will be a very good senator. His head is in the right place.

This right here is ridiculous. You think you know better than Bruce.
I know barbaric hiring practices went by the wayside decades ago. Why in the fricking world would you not entertain best resumes before landing on the son nobody is desperate to land.

Steven has done basically every interview since the season ended, and did a lot during the season.

A lot of the Auburn dynamic under Bruce was his force of personality in recruiting. What Steven can do in that regard is an open question.

I am crying about your emotions and everyone else that just wants to go through life being appreciative of Bruce even though when he leaves the expectations are still there and ticket prices through the roof.

I have worked with Steven. Dude is smarter than his dad. Nowhere near the charisma although the players like him. Will have to make it work in other ways.

Point is Duke is the beacon and they had to settle for an internal unproven hire

Respect what? His decision to clearly force the Auburn administration into making it impossible to hire anyone BUT his son as his replacement?

Are you guys serious? This has to be the most cuck take of 2025.

I don't give a shite how bad Auburn basketball was, the idea that Bruce Pearl allegedly now controls the entire basketball program and gets to nepo his own unproven son as his replacement because he built a good program is absurd. Auburn gave him everything required to get the program to this point, he did NOT do it all on his own. Dude didn't even win a championship LOL.

If his son ends up being a giant dud, this has a very real possibility of tarnishing Bruce's legacy because it will come to light that he conveniently retired at a strategic time to intentionally handcuff the administration into not being able to perform an actual search when they had considerable program-pedigree to attract a potential impact replacement.

How old are you? Because for most of us that have seen Auburn basketball, Pearl has earned every right to asking for whatever

Ultimately the school made the call. If he fails, he fails.

You lose all credibility here. My lord.

No, they didn't make the call.

The story going around is that they inquired on his timeline and plans this summer when they engaged in contract update talks (when the Senate crap was in full flight) and Bruce demanded in writing that his son would be his successor, which Raymond and John Cohen declined and countered that they would only promise that he received an interview. Fast forward a few months and he conveniently retires out of nowhere right before practice starts, which basically guarantees that the school can't even contemplate a search and has no choice but to hand the program over to his son.

If you are Auburn's AD, why wouldn't you want to at least interview other candidates given the current standing of the program? He out-maneuvered them and forced their hand.

I still think he runs. I think he is waiting for a few key endorsements and will eventually get them.

I'd have expected one last season. Calling it right before it starts is... welp, I'm guessing there's a good reason, but I just don't see it.

Thanks though.
