While he was on his way to a 49 yard TD run, he noticed he couldn't hear anyone chasing him. He said to himself "I thought these guys were supposed to be fast?"

My main memory of that game is the sheer terror I felt every time Dexter McCluster touched the ball

Actually, we had just lost three SEC games in a row. Season was looking bad (it was). It was an 11:00 AM kickoff, they were favored, and we beat them handily in the end, proving (to me) that our earlier struggles were coaching related.

Not exactly comparable to our current situation, but interesting nonetheless. I am not an optimist when it comes to Auburn Football, and especially with what we have seen this year.

Whatever, I have always enjoyed the Ben Tate quote.

Maybe the most underrated back we’ve had this millennia

Peyton Barber. Ran him off because we wanted two others. He was the only one to play in the NFL, the other two never took another snap for us. Most undervalued.

Peyton left because his mom was poor.

Peyton was lucky that Jovon was a bad apple, because Jovon had all the talent in the world. Peyton was okay because of will power. not vision.

I seem to remember Barber running directly into the backs of the Oline on multiple carries.

I still can’t believe Barber had some league success. He looked so bad to me

He found the hardest 4 yards a carry a lot. Granted most offenses can stay on the field with 4 yards a pop. His NFL career was cherry on the top, but I dont feel like we underutilized him or anything.

37 carries for 120 yards against Arkansas
27 carries for 137 yards against Mississippi State
28 Carries for 147 against San Jose State. He was a trusted mule.

auburnnyc, same but the TB starter Ronald Jones was also pretty average as well. I am not sure if Ronald Jones ever had a breakout season at all.

Meanwhile, Jovon didnt get serious run until October 31st because he was in Gus's doghouse.

But from October 31st on he wasnt merely hitting 3.5 yards per carry. He basically averaged over a hundred yards a game the last half of the season and won MVP of the Birmingham Bowl. He ended up getting kicked off the team after the season and we didnt even get to enjoy our real life boobie miles.

Huge fan of CAP.

2014 OL lost G-Rob from the 2013 squad, CAP still goes for 1600+.

He led the SEC in rushing that year to boot.

He was a tough player playing on a team that didn't have much toughness. I remember that at crunch times like 3rd and 3 or 3rd and goal we were in much better hands with him than the others.

Seems like when Jovon ran, we didn't get to crunch time as often, but of course I've killed off a few brain cells since then, so I may not be remembering as well. Seems like Barber added toughness and power that Malzahn teams lacked. Of course Tre Mason had both along with speed. Keryon Johnson was probably the type of RB Malzahn really needed in the SEC, but I think God only made one of him.
