Do we have a starting 5?? Outside of Tahaad I'm not sure, and he's not guaranteed to be here yet. Even if we do have a starting 5, my concern is who gives us production off the bench. Right now this team feels like a mid tier NIT squad. It's not where I thought we'd be after such a historic run this year.

Starting 5 man (center) in Keshawn Murphy. As of right now if Pettiford returns I would guess:
Pettiford
Overton
Freeman
Hall
Murphy

Bashir 6th man
Magwood/Williams get real minutes

Then you need another rotational big

That’s a really good roster if they can play with some cohesion but who knows. I expect Bruce to get a lot out of his roster these days but I would feel a lot better with one more big piece

Of the suspected rotation guys, I just happen to think we have some real talent. In terms of ceiling and floor I'd say..

Ceiling, Floor

Pettiford - 2nd Team AA, 2nd Team All SEC
Overton - Reliable Starter and high end glue guy, Matchup dependent quality starter
Freeman - 2nd Team All SEC, Inconsistent with some real flashes
Hall - 1st Team All SEC, 3rd Team All SEC
Murphy - 3rd Team All SEC, Reliable Starter in most matchups
Bashir - SEC 6th man of year, frustrating shot chucker
Magwood - Pettiford last year, Wendell Green Jr at his worst
Williams-Adams - Sophomore year Jaylin Williams, Non-Factor

So I definitely think we have some truly high end guys, but several guys we are just unsure on how it will translate to SEC play. I'm particularly bullish on Freeman, I think the dude might be really special.

Apparently the reason this dude kept saying beggars can't be choosers is because he doesn't have a clue about the talent we've picked up, or how to evaluate talent, or both.

If Tahaad is back we are probably a 9 seed or so floor barring injuries. Particularly if we pick up one decent piece/big.

Everyone else in the SEC is going to have similar depth and roster meshing concerns as us, it's just the way it is with the new world of NIL.

I think nyc94 has a pretty accurate overview of our players for next year, though I have a feeling Bashir gets the majority of minutes at the 2 rather than Overton. But that probably depends on how Bashir winds up defensively.

To me Freeman is the x factor, if his skills translate well our offense is going to be extremely hard to defend with Hall at the 4 and Murphy at the 5. If Freeman works out and our freshman are decent this could be a really good team.

I mean, you can have your opinion, but this goes against what pretty much all of the people who make a living tracking rosters and transfer talent are saying.

We need another capable big. Hopefully we get Pet back. If both of those happen I feel pretty good about this squad.

I think the ceiling of this team is a 4/5 seed and floor is a 8/9 seed but I also don’t believe the league will be as good in 25/26 as it was this past year.

surprising because that is that is almost 3 x what I heard. I heard it was ~1.1 - 1.2 mil 3x what he was making and the payback was 60% if he left.

Webster Dictionary:
"beggars can't be choosers"
—used to say that people who need something should be satisfied with what they get even if it is not exactly what they wanted.

Need me to hold your hand and walk you through the rest or can you take it from here?

Nyc-
Using your projected starting 5, we've got 2 players with SEC experience (Pet and Hall) and only one more with D1 experience (Overton). It took most of our lower level players at least a season to become somewhat consistent and reliable if they did at all. Just like our football team, I'm gonna have to see it with this squad first.

I do like the overall size of this line-up compared to this years, but this team feels like a collection of missed opportunities after such a great season. We had chances to get proven top tier calibur players in the portal. Guys you could build a team around, but we didn't. Do you think this team has that guy? Pettiford... maybe?

I don't really give a crap about the semantics of your proverb/aphorism, I was calling you out for the stupidity of your mid level NIT roster comment.

Hall doesn't have SEC experience, he came from the Big12. And on top of that Murphy was a starter for Miss St, 4 of our top 6 have D1 experience. You continue to show you don't really know much about our roster.

Who exactly did we have a chance to get but didn't exactly? We had to replace our entire roster outside of (hopefully) Tahaad with a solid but not elite NIL budget. Meanwhile teams like Kentucky and Duke are throwing around crap loads of cash we can't compete with really. You are acting like we can outspend everyone, when guys like CBM are apparently getting 3 mil in the portal.

Hall was the top scorer in the Big12, he's a top tier transfer player. We had to outspend Tennessee and Indiana for Freeman, he was very much a top tier transfer. Murphy was an excellent transfer as well. With the amount of NIL dollars being thrown around we weren't getting 3-4 elite players, it's just not possible.

And yes, given that Tahaad is a borderline first round pick after his first season, I think it's safe to say he's a guy you can build a team around.

Going to be hard to get into next year's team (and probably most going forward).

Yeah, agree with your overall point in terms of college sports with NIL. The CBM situation kinda just highlights how ridiculous things are right now.

I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm with football right now due to NIL. I'm finding it a little easier with basketball due to how much smaller the rosters are, and the ability to root for the underdog a little bit with transfers coming up from Juco and lower divisions like Bashir and Freeman.

Randy and BigBlue are used to seeing some form of roster continuity and remember the last year we didnt.

Jang, the last year we didn't have good roster continuity was the 21-22 season (only returned 3 players who averaged over 20 minutes from the previous season), and we finished first in the SEC.

Ok well now we are returning only 1 semi-starter. Hell really only returning one player from the whole previous team.

And that small number is not a sure thing.

Stop being so defensive.

This from you of all people is pretty rich. I'm not particularly defensive, was just calling out Blue for posting BS when he clearly doesn't know much about our transfers. Which you of all people can't complain about calling people out, unless you want to be a huge hypocrite I guess.

I agree with Randy's take/concerns, even if I'm still really enjoying college basketball due to Bruce.

And if Tahaad winds up surprising Bruce and going pro that definitely changes things dramatically for sure.
