Auburn schedules Akron for 2021 season opener

Our upcoming season openers:

Auburn's season openers for the next three years are set.
Auburn will host Akron in the 2021 season opener set for Sept. 4, 2021 inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, it was announced Thursday.
"We are very excited to take on one of the iconic football programs in college athletics," Akron athletics directory Larry Williams said in a news release.

The game will be the second ever meeting between the two programs. Auburn knocked off Akron 42-0 in 1988.

I’m good with this. Silly to scheduling an extra SEC-caliber opponent to our non conference slate while the SECW is this strong and we’re playing Georgia.

Winner winner. It’s nice to brag about the SOS until the season starts. And then reality sets in. At least Akron is FBS.

Agreed. The tough out of conference game is good as it kind of helps give us room if we take one loss, even if it is that game, but the rest of our schedule is always so brutal that likely scenario is rare.
