Looks like Daniel Thomas ran a 4.51. He has had a good combine. 24 reps on the bench.

2016 Article on AU 40 Times (SBNation)

To correctly calculate an AU football player's 40 yard dash time, you must add between 0.2-0.5 to the number published by the school. #AuburnFast.

The fact he hadn’t timed himself since freshman year is a bit telling

You think he didn't time himself as he was training?

According to an article, and the fact that he thought he would be in the 4.2 range (based on improving from freshman year’s number of low 4.3), I don’t think he did.

I mean if he was training with Ruggs and whoever that trainer they were using, I find that highly unlikely. Possible he just had a bad day. Plus, i'm pretty sure they run & time those every year before the season anyways. Not that it really matters though. He runs what he runs.

We'll see at his Pro day.

Just went back and read the article it said “first official 40 yard dash since his freshman year” so that doesn’t rule out unofficial, hand timed training and whatnot. So yeah, you’re right.

I'd assume so, but there is a generally understood variance, so we should still be able to get a good idea of what he runs.

I think teams that are interested will send scouts that will work their own stop-watches also.

Justin Lee
@ByJustinLee
Unofficial 40 times at Auburn's Pro Day:

Sal Cannella 4.74
Jeremiah Dinson 4.73
Marquel Harrell 5.22
Will Hastings 4.52
Mike Horton 5.37
Noah Igbinoghene 4.49
Kam Martin 4.52
Spencer Nigh 4.82
Daniel Thomas 4.55
Gary Walker 5.27
Jay Jay Wilson 4.83

I’m very surprised that Dinson is so slow. Igbo is still in the 4.48-4.53 range.

Dinson and Kam Martin were pretty surprising to me.

So here is a question, do we just evaluate speed poorly or are our guys not maintaining their speed as they grow?

Kam got noticeably bigger. Maybe he didn’t train as hard once he figured out he wouldn’t be the guy.

Hastings was probably a 4.4 guy prior to the busted knee debacle. He appeared to have lost a step this year.

For whats its worth Marcello had a few, if not all guys faster, but admitted no one had a good angle from where the media was allowed to be.

Iggy was 4.42 and 4.41, Martin was 4.43 and 4.44. He had Dinson at 4.6 too, which while faster is still way slower than I expected. He plays faster than that though so I'm not sure if something was up or what.

Back in 2017 Kodi Burns apparently said he had a 4.3 40 and the fastest 20-yard shuttle time in program history.

I started a thread of an interview with Bo Jackson’s pro day at Auburn where he was times with an electronic device to capture his speed. It’s a pretty good story he tells.

Damn Dinson probably went from possible late round pick to maybe not even signing as a FA. 4.7 for a DB gets exposed in the NFL. I always thought he was faster and better then Thomas but Thomas’s numbers are much better.

Nigh damn fast for his size. 4.8 sounds about what you want in a massive fullback.

Dinson was leading nearly every statistic on our defense early in the season. He at least played up. He was a good college player.

It all makes sense now though. If Javaris and Noah were running sub 4.4, Thomas (our SS) running a 4.51, and Dinson in the 4.4 range, it wouldn’t have made sense as to why we getting gashed so much later in the season because they were all veterans.

Not sure if already reported but Josh Holsey is now a grad assistant DB coach. Gus thinks he will be an on the field DB Coach (somewhere) within 4 years. He thinks very highly of him.
