I'll take the job. I'm pretty sure the route tree from my high school veer offense included a slant. Also a fan of the tight end dump

I've heard from my sources that Carlson was going to transfer to Bama until Gus offered him the OC position. It's rumored that he's still considering both positions. I bet a guy $100 on it too.

BM has a new update this morning. Warning it sounds pretty familiar to the last few days, even got a quote from the highly accurate "industry sources"

- Malzahn canceled an in home visit with 4* WR Noah Igbinoghene yesterday to focus more time on coaching search. Iggy got impression we were trying to get something done yesterday

- AU still aiming high for a new OC. Mike Yurcich is apparently getting a new contract with Oklahoma State

- Something interesting Malzahn canceled his visit to Iggy shortly after the Mazzone news came out

I don't usually like copy & pasting VIP stuff but I am just gonna do it for this final bullet
quote:

Every search for a big-time position coach, especially for a head coach entering a crucial year in his career, must be carefully discussed and dissected by both the head coach and administrators. Those administrators are also provided guidance by big-money boosters and others with power, and that is the case for Malzahn as he searches for a play caller. There has to be an agreement of sorts between the parties, which can complicate the process and lead to lengthy searches and the need to spend more money to attract high-profile candidates. It also limits the pool of candidates.

How this has affected Auburn’s search will ultimately be judged by the hire and how they perform as a play caller on game days, but it's obvious Auburn has been aiming high for a coordinator. The longer the process goes, the more likely a second-tier candidate will emerge or Auburn will have to wait longer (perhaps after signing day) and spend more money to secure a top-tier play caller.

So today should be fun again

Was looking for some more info on Chip Lindsey and found this article.
quote:

Part of ASU head coach Todd Graham's rationale for hiring Lindsey was the coordinator's familiarity with the terminology Graham's offensive coaches have used throughout his career.

Lindsey's baseline knowledge of Graham's preferred system was gleaned working as an assistant under Graham protege Gus Malzahn at Auburn, but has been fine-tuned since Lindsey arrived at ASU.

A defensive coach at heart, Graham has clear-cut ideas of how an offense should run. Those ideas have formed through Graham's career, but according to ASU defensive coordinator Keith Patterson, began to take on a more definite shape when Graham hired Malzahn as the offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2007.

"The greatest thing that ever happened to coach and I was when we hired Gus Malzahn at Tulsa," Patterson said. "Those people, the Air Raid guys, the Gus Malzahn's, the hurry-up, no-huddle, they changed football. Forever probably. I don't ever see it going back any other way any time soon."

Without experience under Malzahn, it's fair to say Lindsey wouldn't hold the title of ASU's offensive coordinator. Without experiences outside of Malzahn's system, though, it's fair to say Lindsey wouldn't be nearly the coach he is today.

Lindsey is much more than a branch on the Graham-Malzahn coaching tree. He's a football sponge, who has soaked up the ideas of dozens of different offensive minds.

Some good stuff in that article for anyone unfamiliar with Lindsey. The more this search goes on I think the higher likelihood he ends up the guy but we will see

I don't get the fascination with hiring a big name coordinator... It didn't work the last time we did it (boom). Why not try to hire the next Loncoln Riley or Yurcich? That's a recipe for more longterm success than throwing a couple million at a big name guy that'll be gone in a year or two for a HC gig?

It brings instant credibility to recruits and also the players already on the team.

While there were certainly some short term gains made by bringing in muschamp, I think we can all agree that having a guy leave and take all his assistants with him after one year is not a recipe for sustaining success.

I was considered the best NCAA player among my friends...then I went online for the first time for '13, and lost my first 9 games, lol...however, I figured out a few schemes I hadn't familiarized myself with before, and I ended my online career on a 14-1 run. Wasn't nationally ranked in head-to-head, but my QB WAS nationally ranked on Dynasty mode for career rushing yards at Auburn

If y'all have so much time to talk about video games, then surely we have enough time and energy to talk about our shitty recruiting class.

Otherwise, get your arse on topic.

While I agree that we should be aiming high, there is a ceiling to the search. Guys who are above that ceiling are not going to mesh well and take orders from Gus. It's a lot of wasted time even talking to those guys.

A Riley, Yurcich, or Lindsey should suffice. If they won't, we've got much bigger problems and we need to get rid of those before we will be able to move on. The longer this drags on, the more dysfunctional Auburn appears to be and the more glaring its problem.

There is an elephant in the room here.

You would think today would be the day.

If it's not today, Gus is having a hard time finding somebody to say yes.

I think it's today.

I hope it's today.

It has to be today, right?
