VIP update from 247
Gus is getting serious pressure to hire from outside his coaching tree.
There is resistants against hiring Chip because of the above mentioned.
Helfrich is a real candidate probably the #1.
Gus and Helfrich are feiends but he could land at Cal

I would rather Gus hire his people and bomb then be then instructed who he hires.

I personally don’t care if the coach comes from the Malzahn coaching tree or from a 2A high school in west BFE. I do care that he has enough balls to step in and own the offense, recruits well, has Gus’ support, and is a proven QB coach. If Gus is not on board it will be Franklin again followed by Gus’ Tubbs like departure. If he does not have the balls to run it and make Gus give it to him we will wind up with the same garbage as this year. Again we come down to faith in Gus to not be stubborn and work with someone and make something happen.
With that said I think Lindsey is a decent compromise of familiar to Gus without being a true disciple. He is just hard to judge off of So Miss and the total wreck he had at ASU this year with player injuries. I still believe whoever comes in Gus needs to allow the QB's some outside help or bring in his own guru to be dedicated to the task.

AUBURN, Ala. — Former Baylor coach Art Briles and his son, Kendal, will not be considered for Auburn's offensive coordinator job, a source tells Auburn Undercover.
"No way on Art," a high-level source told Auburn Undercover on Thursday. "Kendal lacks experience Gus (Malzahn) needs."

Was my comment from the beginning. I do not believe Gus made the decision to send Rhett packing. It came from the ever popular "higher ups"

This. That tidbit made me angry. Either fire Malzahn or know your role and shut the frick up. Auburn has been through this before.

Wait, so most of the season we have all be saying we need to hire an OC outside of Gus's system, but when our higher ups are making sure that happens, it no longer is a good idea?
WTF is this bizarro world?

No idea. Just that I dont believe Rhett left on his own and I dont think Gus made the decision.
Don't really care past that.

There are people that hate the mythical GOB's so damn much that if they were given a choice between the GOB lining up Bill Belichik for the Auburn HC job or an outside firm recommending a combo-HC of Hugh Nall and Steve Ensminger, those people would be all in on Nallsminger.

What don't you understand about how it makes your program look when the head coach isn't allowed to make his own decisions?
