very good question... especially when you got a guy like Russ Wilson you're working with.

Maybe he wanted to get away from the depressing weather.

My guess is it was a good step for him to get some chops as OC at the college level.

According to info brought to the board Harsin was in a long Zoom call Monday that also included Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson. If true it appears Carroll is mentoring AD to take the role to build his resume.

My intent was not to compare Harsin's offense to Gus'.

Totally, Harsin's is a better compplete offense that uses all pieces of offensive players.

What I am curious about is, how Harsin operates situationally during the game? Does he have a feel for the right call at the right moment?

Some coaches do it well, some are headscratchers.

I know how his offenses worked at Boise, but was he considered a top-level playcaller?

He can come here, develop the gameplans and relationships. Wait for his chance to leave and be a HC.

Harsin was OC during some of Petersen's best years at Boise. I have a feeling Hars understands the role well.

he called the 2007 fiesta bowl. i'd say he has a knack for the right call in the right moment.

I’m excited about Davis I think Harsin made a great choice.

Play-calling is only a piece of being OC

No doubt. It’s just funny, because none of us should’ve been sweating it since Harsin is calling the plays.

The expectation is that he would "learn" and be eased into taking on full play-calling duties. So he would be moving under the pretense that he would become a full OC at an SEC school within a year or so, which is still a step-up from QB Coach in the NFL. I don't believe that Harsin has any plans of being the play-caller indefinitely.

I can see this, you can let AD slowly start calling games, maybe even let him call the 2nd half of Mercer or a blowout game

I would think the OC of a major college football program would have more upwards mobility and larger salary than a position coach in the NFL. There are some position coaches in the NFL who can pull in $700k a year but those are the exception and not the rule.

I think he kind of sold him on developing Geriner. I think Harsin was highly upset with the playcalling of Bobo, and would've done things a lot differently if he had the opportunity.

It's obvious he reads the emails I send him. Wait, we still have our ST coach.

More money. A chance to have "OC" on his resume. A chance to see if he can develop a QB from scratch. College money these days is rivaling NFL money, so perhaps he is looking to move up the college ranks.
