Per FootballScoop.com

Should Auburn lose to Bama there is growing buzz within the inside that Gus may "reset his clock" and take the Arkansas job. Gus would likely get a fresh 5 year 30 million or more deal. At AU he has 3 years left making just under 5 million per year. There's no instate rival at Arkansas where he would be constantly compared to and the fanbase is a lot more docile. It's also thought he would have a voice in choosing Arkansas new AD.

Many in the business see this as a no brainer for Malzhan. The issue is timing. If AU loses to Bama Saturday and Arkansas loses to Mizzou Friday then Malzahn could leave as early as Sunday. Should AU win things become a little more unclear. Beat UGA who AU has already blown out and Malzahn is in the playoffs and well past the early signing period in December.

We're told Auburn is doing some diligence preparing for the possibility of his departure. Multiple sources have relayed that Auburn seems to have Bobby Petrino as a backup plan. Petrino's buyout dropped from 8 million to 4 million after Tom Jurich was fired. This isn't to say Petrnio is AU's next man but it is interesting to hear that Auburn is already inquiring.

TT's will be happy

It’s inevitable that Auburn will be rumored to hire Petrino until the day he dies.

I don't want Petrino. He has made some awful hires at UL. Plus it seems the game is passing him by. He still loves to throw that short 3 yard cross on 3rd as long that never works. Plus he still flip flops his left and right tackles based on strong or weak sidem

Seriously. It ain't happening folks. If Gus leaves, I pray that they do not go retread route again. Scott Frost or Chip Kelly for me. Or throw the bank at Chris Peterson.

Would not mater he's from that area up there and has no foes. I'm sure he has no interest in coming to Alabama and facing Saban and Kirby every year.

This is nothing but a smokescreen before the big game Saturday. That article is pure garbage.

Gus is not going to Arkansas. Even if he was fired, which is doubtful, he wouldn't go.

Petrino will never coach in Auburn, or for any other respectable program.

This guy is not leaving the West coast. He has been "the guy to target" in virtually every high profile coaching search for what seems like nearly decade now and when he did ultimately leave Boise, it was to get even more West-bound to Washington. The fact that his name still circulates is kind of absurd.

I agree. I was almost on the Petrino board in 2012, just because the state of the program at the time. There is no reason he should be on the radar if Gus were to leave.

Sounds like gamesmanship on Auburn's part to combat Sexton's gamesmanship. Regardless, it would be nice to have a plan so that we can move fast if Gus does jump ship.
