My analysis of Gus’s comments in today’s presser is that Horton was only repping at center to serve in an emergency role. Just coupling that with Horton’s comments a few weeks ago about how little time he is spending there. I’m not sure it’s a reflection on Ashley at guard at all

So ESPN panel of experts put out their CFP predictions

Only Laura Rutledge chose AU to make CFP of the 40+ experts

It also sounds to me like Brahms might overtake Kim before season is over. For a guy that has not played much this fall Gus has been quick to emphasize he has a chance to challenge for starting role

Yeah it sounds like they didn't expect Brahms to be back so soon. Also seemed pleased with depth along the lines.

With what we know right now, my pre-season prediction is that we don't make the CFP. Honestly, I need to see Gus go into big-time road environments and at least go toe-to-toe with ranked teams. It may take Stidham wading into the heroics water of Cam and Nick and a headstrong, dominant runningback to emerge, but regardless Athens should have a giant red circle around it on Gus's calendar. Right now, perception is reality and it's that Gus can't win the big ones on the road. JMO. I feel like the team is missing something I can't put my finger on that is keeping me from thinking they can make the SEC Championship, small but important. Not sure.

I hope I'm wrong as Gus has made a lot of concessions and changes in philosophy, or so it appears, and I hope that pays off across the board. Hard to tell until this Sunday and more so after LSU.

ETA: I think we blast most of the teams we face and Gus is an improving coach. Just need to see that small step towards elite to be confident in a CFP run.

We could play our absolute best this year, be a legit top 5-8 level team, and still have 3 losses at the end of the season. Our schedule is just brutal.

I should also point out that Gus said Boobee’s mental drive, composure, and toughness stands out on the team and he has the respect of his teammates which is the biggest reason why he’s got the nod at #2

Sounds like he's in the doghouse to me.

I agree. But after just doing the countdown to gameday and seeing the 2014 loss @ UGA 41-7, we can't have that. Different situation, different team then - got it. I understand if we lose a couple on the road this year, our schedule is pretty ridiculous, but the team has to look competitive if we do or it can fairly be assumed Gus gets scared or something on the road.

toughness
This is the key to me if I were coaching RBs. Attack that defense. Find your gap and if you meet someone, you lower your pads. If you are running the 8 or 9 outside and a safety is coming along, put your arm out and push his arse to get another couple of yards. Game experience for him will go a long way, great first test. He will be excellent by the second half of the season.

Serious question, who was the 3rd string QB that's out?

That's a cop out excuse. You play the schedule you're dealt. SECC or bust this year.

Impressive that he could earn that high praise despite all that time he spends in Lafayette

How is the reality of our schedule a cop out excuse? Did I say it would be acceptable? No. That doesn't change the fact that it is the reality of the task we have this season.

Its not when you couple our tough schedule with UGA and Bama's ridiculously weak schedules. If you're making predictions as to who will make the CFP, those are 3 pretty big strikes against AU. Again, just talking about predictions as pundits.
