He's a PG all the way imo. Not only offensively but he has to defend too so unless we sign a combo or big pg as his backup there's not really another option

Yeah… he’s gotta guard the 1.

Tahaad just needs to cut down on the turnovers…. not many dudes out there that are 3 level scorers with his talent and experience. He drives me crazy at times too… but I’ll take him every day of the week.

I know Freeman is looking around, but could he stay?

Reality is when these dudes hit the portal they’re gone… even if they get an equal offer from someone else they’ll take it over the optics of going back.

He has.

We are going to be hosting a sharp shooter in wing forward Heide from Texas and a PF from Creighton

Has there been anything official on Oporum and Muschalak?

Does Heide mean we missed on the Euro

Then he better become a hell of a lot better passer this off-season or it's going to be another frustrating season.

I'm rather baffled by the amount of people pumped up by the idea of him coming back as primary PG. It's like people are ignoring the fact that our crappy offense in SEC play was in a large part due to his inability to be a good PG.

I have confidence in his ability to bounce back next year with his shooting, but I don't have a bunch of confidence in him being a good starting PG on a solid tournament team. Though hopefully he proves me wrong on that.

I am not neutral on TP as a point guard. I think he is a better 2.

I just think it is obvious he has to be a 1 if he is returning.

We could find a long PG and let him be the 2 and Overton a 3 and that still seems too small of a lineup. So then we are talking about well maybe Overton needs to be the 6th man.

Pettiford is back!!!!!

Just had time to sit down and scroll for a while and saw this news. That is HUGE!.

I will gladly eat my crow on this one because I was near certain that he was out of here to try and get his draft stock back up. Couldnt be more happy that he made me eat my words. Hopefully either playing the 1 clicks for him...or he moves back to the 2 and we bring in an elite PG so he can move back to his natural position and stop having to think and just play.

No doubt, which is why I'm not exactly stoked about them both coming back as starters. I personally would have rather seen us blow the roster up more and get a better fit overall rather than have Tahaad as primary PG.

We've spent the entire season talking about how badly this roster was constructed, and now it sounds like we are pretty much running it back. Tahaad at the 1 and Overton at the 2 gives us the same crappy defense and poor offensive flow we had this year in the backcourt.

The poor construction to me was more about the lack of bigs and rim protectors. Overton was a very good defender at TT. Defense is always going to struggle without bigs protecting the rim.

And we’re not really running anything back, I mean we have the core of the team and will be much bigger inside and probably about the same on the wings and possibly better from the outside if we get the Texas kid and the Euro kid.

Completely blowing a roster up year after only works if you’re spending 25-30 million and I doubt we will be doing that.

Mus is a wasted roster spot… if we’re serious about winning find a difference maker

Well, you'd be dead wrong, we had a hell of a lot more problems than just a lack of a rim protector. And Overton was pretty average statistically defensively at Texas Tech in his one year there.

at the idea that two guys who averaged 5 points a game at Texas and the Euro league respectively are going to be the missing piece for us. Freeman was a better player than either, and that's not even going into having to replace Hall's impact.

And Heide sucks defensively, he's not going to help anything on that end. If those two are our starters at the 3 next year with Tahaad and Overton at 1 and 2 we are in for a world of hurt next year.

25-30 mil for a basketball roster, GTFO of here with that nonsense.

5.9 pts per game doesn’t equate to shooting the leather off the ball lol. Hope he is a great defender.

I’m hopeful we are targeting an elite pg or combo guard that has a few years eligibility still, another 5 and the Lithuanian freek that can run 3-4.

Not having bigs was a huge issue. While Hall was a productive scorer his defense was pretty bad. With the visits we have coming up and guys we’ve been linked to I think we’ll put together and better roster. Thomas Dowd, Owen Freeman, Jalen Shelly, etc.

And how much do you think Michigan spend on their roster this year? Kentucky probably spend 20+ this year. Well guess what, it ain’t getting any cheaper. Flory Budinga is looking for 5 million.

My point is retaining the core of Pettiford, SWA, and Overton is not a bad thing.

Oh, no doubt that is 100% true. But you said that was our only roster construction issue, which isn't remotely true. Having poor perimeter defense and a 2 guard playing point guard were equally as big of roster construction issues.

That means less than nothing, tons of teams rebuilt 80% of their roster and did much better than us. A&M being one example. You don't have to spend 15 mil to have a decent team.

We’re also getting visits from Owen Freeman and Jalen Shelly

Two guys that can't shoot 3s, one of which also scored 5 points a game last year, that'll fix our offense. The major problem with our offense last year was our lack of 3 point shooting and lack of passing/movement.

The Euro guy or Heide or Shelly would be fine for a backup wing, but if any of those are starting for us we are pretty screwed. We pretty much have to have someone who can fill it from 3 and score 15+ to go along with Overton and Tahaad. We are replacing about 30 points a game from Hall and Freeman leaving as is.
