I asked Ryan Black about New Williams and he said he was healthy just the 11th man in a 10 man rotation.

I find that hard to believe. I mean maybe he is but he would of at least gotten in a game for a few minutes by now.

Maybe he is not playing so he can rs and transfer as some mentioned before

EtA: Pearl was very high on New I remember him sayingo without the injury his senior year New would have been a 5* playing for UCLA or USC

I don't know anything 1st hand but everything I've seen or heard is that he isn't and may never be healthy enough to contribute. He just doesn't have any lateral quickness and has trouble staying in front of Keim in practices. Hopefully it will come back or maybe it is even a trust issue with his knee but it's been long enough since his last injury that he shouldn't be struggling like he is.

I heard the same thing from someone who works with the basketball team about his lack of real progress

MCT was the other person

Probably true on the injury front. You could see it last year. He could be playing at least a few minutes a game though to give them some offense. He can shoot.

Your move, basketball.

Last year he was very very clearly injured/hobbled when on the court.

I think he got another scope mid season or offseason or something

I'm in full basketball mode now. Can't wait to see the team rebound against USC Upstate.

Question...Just how lucky was Purdue's 3 point barrage in the second half? We're the baskets just falling, or was it because we were playing lackadaisical defense? It sure seems that over the past 2 seasons, that teams often 'get lucky' against us in terms of shots falling.

Klay Thompson has the NBA 3PT contest record with 27/34 for ~80% according to wikipedia

Purdue shot in a game about 65-70%

That is nuts

Combination of getting very clean looks because we were helping in the paint, not closing out hard enough on the shooters and a small amount of luck. If you give a decent shooter the type of looks we were giving they are going to make more than they miss.

Even so, they were making 3s at a rate better than normal even for a great shooter

They were lights out and stepped up

I know people were complaining about the looks they were getting but this was definitely a factor. It was solid plan until they figured out they basically couldn't miss from 3.

We had to choose between defending the paint or the 3PT line, we chose right.

If they shoot 50% from 3PT on the night, it is a single digit L. I don't think many teams will be able to take advantage like that again

I saw an article that said Wiley could play as early as Dec 10. This is if he enrolls. Something about grades being in for first semester before then. If this happens and we can get Harper coached up we could be dangerous.

As long as Wiley is reasonably up to speed by UGA, we should be fine.

UConn/OU's bigs don't have the post up girth that causes problem for us. UGA should be the first team that Wiley's size will come in handy on defense

Wow, those assist numbers are pretty terrible, and Heron leading us in rebounding? I realize he's a big bodied SF/G but still. What are Spencer and Smith doing after the shot?

As for the minutes Purifoy seems a little high, but his backup is an undersized TF who doesn't bring what Purifoy brings to the table. Heron and Harper look just about right.

We are about average and by the end of the season likely will be less than average given Bruce's desire to rotate players. Due to youth right now though, we definitely give more minutes to players to help them get experience and gel.

Take a look at Gonzaga who has four 20+ blowouts and still beat us out though. Most teams look like them

Minutes

Nigel Williams-Goss 33.0
Josh Perkins 31.2
Silas Melson 26.8

So, is anyone making it to the game tonight?

I have lab at 5, but I should be able to make it in time for tip off.
