Specifically someone who'd have played PG for a Gonzaga type team. Everyone knows "those guys" who aren't athletic but are so damn basketball smart + know every trick in the book
This guy not getting it done?

Who would've thought that nepotism wouldn't work out?

Got to imagine Steven will be around in some capacity, just not on the floor. Should move him to women's basketball. Can't be worse than the dumpster fire over there

Can we still march to 29-14?

Thank god I didn't stay up for that shite. Maybe next year.

Really disappointed. I'm starting to believe that our program might be cursed.

Actually they were better in December than they were in January-March.
So they weren't the same team all year IMO... they got worse.

Our best games offensively were very cleary in February/March. That is in terms of team play and running he offense
Any offensive improvements were met with an even bigger regression in defensive play.

I'm hoping next year we can schedule more quality away opponents
Don't even care about getting a home game in return, we can't play only one NCAAT in OOC play.
I know OU/UConn were supposed to be better but we need a quality opponent in our first 5 or so games

Defensive rotations are horrible. I've never seen guys out of position like we are. On top of that, we have guys overplay for steals constantly. They get stuck watching the ball.
Every criticism Barbee had was warranted, but his teams did play good defense.

Is Bruce supposed to be a defensive coach?
Posted on 3/9/17 at 7:58 am to HailToTheChiz
Honestly, I think he hasn't adapted to the rule changes. You see what he wants to do when we trapped under Mizzou's basket and our guy gets elbowed in the head and we still get a foul called on us. I doubt half court defense has ever been a strength of his. Pressure defense was, but it's useless now.

I think it was Chex complaining about the full court press and why we don't run it more. The geist elbow to Bryce's face then Bryce "fouls" on the trap is the perfect example. Either you foul the other team or you neuter your press
Bruce's half court defense wasn't his strength to begin with, then our team's defensive ability made it even worse
-Bruce plays man to man, Auburn players suck playing man defense
-Bruce went to zone, which he IS NOT experienced with and our players clearly are out of position regularly
-TJ Dunans freelances guys open all day

Just have to live with his flaws because he is bringing in talent we have never been able to get.
But what is he doing with it? Much like Malzahn, we've had top 10-12 classes 3 years in a row I believe and average 8 wins per season.
If Pearl keeps getting talent but winning 18-20 games then what?

Alabama will be a Tournament team next year in Avery's 3rd year. That will really look bad on Pearl

Why do we believe that Steven Pearl is the reason we suck?
He carries as much but no more blame than Chuck Person or Harris Adler. He has way less blame than Bruce.
Nobody truly knows what is going on and who is actually to blame. But to blindly blame Steven Pearl is funny to me.
