At this point, the NIT is reasonable. We still need to win 2 more for that. Puts us at 19-13 with the SEC tourney to play.
We still have plenty of work to do to secure an NIT bid. Absent something really strange happening, we aren't making the NCAA tournament.

Eta: A win over Arkansas would really improve our resume, but might also help knock Arkansas out of the ncaa tourney taking a spot away in the nit tourney.

First, that's a zero sum game because if Arky makes NCAAT, someone else slides into NIT. That said, Arkansas can afford to lose to AU. They are SEC#3 and if they get to 22W they are projected in at ~70% and 23W ~95%

The things that will affect our NIT chances

1- Small conference regular season champs losing in conf tournaments (Auto NIT bids)
2- Beating any NIT bubble hopeful in SEC, @UGA + SECT opponents

If we beat UGA + Bama/MSU/Vandy/TAMU in SECT, we pretty much secure a spot

I think you missed what I was saying. If we beat Arkansas and contribute to knocking them out of the NCAA tournament, that win may ultimately keep us out of the NIT.

2 more wins has us in good shape for the NIT, but there are so many SEC teams in as good or better shape, that we might still miss out on the NIT with 2 more wins.

How many teams from the SEC well the NIT likely take?

Arky
UT
Vandy
Bama
OM
UGA
ATM
AU

No idea of this websites accuracy, but for what it is worth: rpiforecast.com says if we finish 18-13 we have an RPI of 94. That won't get us in the NIT. However, at 19-12 they project an RPI of 81. That would probably be enough for NIT but a first round loss in the SEC would blow that so we gotta get to the second round.

I got nothing better to do this afternoon.
Same website posted this histogram of 10,000 simulations of our RPI. [/img] I don't think I like what they are trying to tell us.

Except that isn't a real issue outside of someone beating UK/UF or a big SECT run.

If you look how the schedule plays out, in order for one of those teams to make a compelling argument, others have to lose

UGA's star PF Yante Maten has a "very serious knee sprain" and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season

That would be a huge blow and big for AU considering he threw up 31pts 8reb vs AU

That's great but stopping Frazier will be hard enough. He single handedly beat Bama and Bama's defense is legit.

Here are some facts for those disappointed with the bball team's performance

If Auburn wins 1 more game, it will be tied for 6th most regular season wins by an AU team in the past 50 years (since 1966)

If Auburn wins 2 more games, it will be tied for 5th most regular season wins by an AU team in the past 50 years

That's because Bama can't score. Auburn can throw up 80-90+ against UGA if we don't drop an egg, Frazier can't do that by himself

I'm slightly disappointed, mostly due to the effort and lack of teamwork at times.

Just easy to forget the context of this season, that we legit have no history of success, quality team culture or veterans to look up to.

Great post. Some people need to realize this. Yeah, we've had disappointing moments, but overall, we're taking a big step forward.

Yep. This season has been very much like the 2009 football season, but instead of coming off of one really bad season, we're coming off of a decade of them. They've shown spurts of basketball that they'd be able to hang with most teams in the country. They've just had some really bad spurts as well.

So yes, next year is our 2010. DWI.

Our basketball history is so bad.

I mean this is the most wins we've had since 08-09 and we still have more games left. That's almost 10 years there.
