This is not directed to anyone here, but just me venting.

Anyway, I have heard this stupid myth a million times and am tired of it:

quote:

"At Auburn you have Kirby and Nick in your back yard. It's hard to compete with that and makes Auburn less attractive."

Hey, dipshits. Every school in the SEC has to compete with Nick and Kirby. It doesn't matter where the school is located geographically. Not only do all schools have to play one or the other every year, but they are recruiting guys in your state too.

UGA and LSU are the only two state schools that have both of the following:

1) Are in an elite recruiting state.
2) No other in-state competition.

(Florida is an elite recruiting state, but UF must share it with Miami and FSU, so UF doesn't fit both of the above criteria).

But even in Georgia and LA, everyone else goes down there to recruit anyway. Sure, UGA and LSU traditionally get "first dibs" but that has changed with Nick and Kirby. Nick is pulling guys out of both GA and LA and Kirby is pulling guys out of LA. (And not just leftovers, but their top recruits). Hell, AU has pulled a lot of guys out of both LA and GA too.

Bottom line: If you have 4 and 5 stars in your state, Nick and Kirby are going after them. This means all SEC schools are "in their backyard." This notion that somehow only Auburn has this problem is preposterous.

Only 130 FBS schools recruit Florida.

Recruiting is national for Nick and Kirby.

Bowers is from California.
Bryce is from California.

IF a coach wants to compete for championships, he can certainly do that at Auburn. He must be willing to work hard at recruiting, pick assistants who can develop players, have some intestinal fortitude on Saturdays, and be willing to work 24/7/365 on recruiting, developing, and scheme.

Buckle up because you can add Brian Kelly to that list.

He’s a good coach that can recruit.

It’s always going to be tough. Hello NIL snd how we can now level the recruiting field.

No coach will come to Auburn due the boosters.

If a coach doesnt want to come to a top 15 job, one that has one conference titles and national titles, a school with a lot of resources, new FOF, can recuit with the best and hang with the best. If a coach is scared of all that then they will never win as a coach.

If a coach doesnt want to come to Auburn because of a booster (which every school has media just amplifies Auburn's) then they are too scared to be a coach I want and one that is willing to do what it takes to win.

Georgia and LSU have some advantages. Don't be naive,
If a kid has no college connections and grows up around UGA and LSU people, he's going to start out leaning to UGA Or LSU. UA just struck gold with Saban.

But this is nothing Auburn can't overcome, and win their fair share against UGA, UA and LSU.

We've dealt with Bama as they are for a long time now. But Georgia was on-par with us until the last decade or so and that has made it more challenging for sure.

But that won't scare off a good coach.

Umm, it's not a myth it's a fact. Is it a prohibitive thing, not necessarily but you're a clown if you don't think this is a huge factor.

Clemson taking our place as the school non-UGA Georgia kids go has also been crushing.

FWIW, very true that both recruit nationally. UGA still heavily relies on GA and FL specifically. I posted some numbers on this recently. Both recruited closer to home than we often think. UGA kinda changed strategies when Covid hit and it’s worked out well for them.

Plenty of guys to go around, though. We’ve gotta win battles against UGA and Bama obviously on guys we want but where we really have to improve is against the FSUs, Clemson, Penn States that’s re really picking our pockets

Tennessee does… every year.

When realignment happens, who knows what the schedules will look like.

Prior to Heupel's arrival, Tennessee had something like 7 seasons out of ~13 wherein they had won 5 or fewer games. You don't win 5-6 games in a season bEcAUsE yoU PlaYeD bAmA AND GeORgIa!

One extra hard game per year is the difference between 8 vs. 9 wins, or 9 vs. 10 wins. It's not the difference between a 5 win season or a 9 win season, now is it?

This entire logic is retarded. Tennessee was crap because they had crap coaches and crap teams.

When your two biggest rivals completely dominate your recruiting ground yes it has a bigger impact than just those two games. It demoralizes your program and decimates your talent level.

Both things can be true. The point is it takes a truly special coach to come sit in between those two giants and be able to fight back. You can't just hire some slapdick like Bryan Harsin or all the guys UT has hired and think it's going to work. It's definitely possible to be successful at Auburn or UT even in the current environment but it's going to be very difficult.
