NFL had 58,000+ tests over the last 8 days

Does anyone see an issue with the NFL running 58k rapid test and many hospitals still have to triage Covid-19 symptomatic patients into Covid-19 units for 4-6 days waiting on a test result? That seems upside down.

One thing that I’m certain of after watching this pandemic unfold is that there’s a really large portion of the world that doesn’t understand that there are almost no absolute truths in science. There is evidence that helps scientists form opinions. As evidence mounts, opinions can change.

Can we all agree on one thing?

Walking into a restaurant with a mask, only to remove it at your table, is the dumbest thing ever.

Not completely. If you follow the contact tracing the virus is spreading predominately from droplet transmission. While it is present in aerosols there is no concrete evidence that you can contract the virus in that manner. There is a ton of circumstantial evidence to suggest it isn't transmitted via aerosols. I won't get into that debate.

So if you follow the science and see it transmits via droplets then wearing a mask to a table that is properly socially distanced from other tables assuming you are sitting with people you normally socially distance with in your life then a mask adds a layer of protection to those you pass walking to the table.

The contact tracing largely shows people getting the virus in bars, at home parties and from the home when someone went to a bar or a home party. So its unlikely you get it walking into Walmart but it is certainly possible so why not break that chain by wearing a mask.

I don't believe bars should be forced to shut down though they are clearly a part of the problem. The question then becomes how can you create socially distanced bars since you can't drink with a mask on. Home parties should go outside. It safer.

Mask work...the science is beginning to bear it out. I just read an article suggesting mask mandates and other social distance mandates aren't the reason for the reduction in cases...the article had a bunch of holes in it, but in the end it suggested people social distancing better was the reason. The funny thing is part of the reason for a "mask mandate" is to remind people they need to stay away from each other in a reasonable way.

This board is just way too tedious to wade through for how few posts it generates. My goodness you guys can’t go three days without tearing into each other.

It might behoove you guys to talk about zone versus man blocking or something regarding the strategy of the game, because the world is full of a lot of negative energy and strong opinions, but nobody wants to wade through that here.

idk what to say man. I like you all and hate that the world is so insanely torn up, but I can get the frustrations of COVID and our collective response as a people and as a government from any one of ten million different avenues for like five months now. I’m at the end my personal rope with it here.

If we have players sitting out from it, fine; talk about it. But I’m not sure just what people citing different obscure papers and throwing them at each other, most of the time in bad faith (to get “gotcha” moments instead of discussing their findings with a critical mind) on a niche sports message board is supposed to accomplish. It’s just killing a small board that used to be one of the better reads on this entire website.

Well said and for my part in the chaos I apologize to all. I am confrontational by nature and this Covid shite only exacerbates it

You’re fine man. I’ve gotten heated a few more times than I’m proud to admit with my friends over the last few months. 2020 has been the stress test to a lot of us ideologically, financially, emotionally, you name it.

But we all, as a group here, need to take a step back and realize we all ultimately want the same things. And while we likely have disagreements on how to get there, those conversations need to take place elsewhere. We need to make this board into a sanctuary where we stick to the stuff that originally brought us here: Auburn University and her athletics. With that common ground, we can create an escape from the terrible news cycles we have been getting nonstop.

Welp, just anecdotally, but my guess is the COVID is about to sweep through campus quickly based on info from my kid.

Might be a good thing to just get it over with, who knows at this point? Pretty good chance my kid has it due to contact with someone with it. AU parent facebook pages are filled with parents complaining about the University's lack of response and other COVID complaints. I think most is unfounded. We all knew when we sent our students back, what the situation was. Praying for asymptomatic cases.
