Tim Cook doesn’t give a crap about AU football. He would rather boost board profits more than anything and secondarily control DC to advance his desires. Which is his role for that business but I would be shocked if he took out of his personal wealth any amount that would contribute to sports

I've literally seen him talk to the team and talk football. He gave 50 million dollars to the business school and I'm sure he's smart enough to know how helpful a good athletic program at a university can help bring in students for the school you helped build. It all ties together.

Has he given? If he has it hasn’t been reported. Trust me people like that want it known they did this or that so I’m sure we would know.
He gave to the business school. See we know about that.
I could imagine maybe he might would contribute to some facilities and his name be on it or something but just giving to pay players seriously doubt it

quote:I know someone who's kid is a decent prospect in ATL. The amount of money they have to spend every year its crazy. Single parents out here having to raise $5000 just to cover summer cost.
Same with pee wee football and travel baseball. Perfect Game makes a fortune off travel tournaments. PG tournament directors in the Atlanta area make between 150-200k a year.

IM sure some collectives handle the tax aspects of the deals for the recruits. Not all though Id wager
I wonder when the IRS is going to want a percentage of the "benefits" of these tax paying adults? Free room and meals are compensation.

There’s already well established rules for scholarships. Not sure why you think it’d be any different now. NIL money is already taxed.
Weird arguments always come out of this conversation for some reason.

Everybody wants to be a capitalist until somebody starts making money doing something you can't do.

Its a very valid point chex. Anything not available to a normal student on campus could be considered compensation. Clothing, meals, housing, tutoring, medical.
Normal students will file a class action, either give it to me....or tax them.
It opens a plethora of questions to be answered.
We all agree they should be paid but its a classic example of....be careful what you wish for.

Everyone also likes to pretend a college scholarship, food and board, pro-level weight training, coaching, free professional level promotion and national television exposure has no monetary value, also.
The other fact about capitalism: if the product sucks, the pay follows.

I wonder what will happen when the athlete's become official employees (to a certain degree) and the regular employees of the these institutions are told they can't get a 2 dollar raise or a annual bonus? Lol Can you imagine telling an administrator that we can't give you that upgrade we promised while simultaneously paying a 5 star edge rusher 500k? That can't go well right? Lol

Those children need to shutup and keep making their coaches millions. They do get a meal card and a dorm room. Those motherfrickers better not get a job either.

And 1099 IRS rules are really nasty. And honestly these adults are 1099 contractors right now. These adults need some good tax attorneys to set up some proper LLC's. I offer that from experience.

I am definitely a capitalist but hate when others think my tax fair share should be higher than theirs because what I can do that they can't isn't "cool"

Well according to some here, you probably don't appreciate the monetary value in roads and highway signs, telecommunication networks, and free public water systems.

At least you gave the $ back to the folks that issued it :) I always say that if taxpayers were required to send in quarterly tax payments instead of weekly deductions from their paycheck we would have a quick revolt.
