Lewis Carter officially committed to Oklahoma.
Also you're right.. not a chance Ausberry is coming here lol. If you notice there hasn't been any info on him in months.

Some of the other coaching staffs, I haven’t really had as much of a connection or communicated like I have with the staff at Oklahoma.

Auburn is fighting Troy for kids. Embarrassing.

Everyone still a no on my Coach G suggestion? Bring him in as HC and be a talent gathering head coach and let the OC/DC do their things like what Pittman is doing at Arky.
Not saying it’s something you do for 15 years but a good 5-6 years and you have enough talent to be back competitive in your conference. We have a huge advantage to Arky in being able to get elite kids with the right coaches.

His mom really likes Auburn and wants the brothers to be together. That’s our only shot. Plus I don’t see the older brother being a starter this year so if we don’t land the younger we probably lose the older to the portal.

Based on?

Based on the parents not wanting the boys at separate schools.
I know it’s easy to sit back and say choose where you want as a parent of 1 kid. But 2 playing at the same time is much easier if they are together and not at 2 different schools.

If we are doing that why not go get T-Will? He would put some energy in the program

Took some time away from this, but I'm back with renewed hope and optimism. What have I missed?
Posted on 7/16/22 at 10:44 pm to AubieinNC2009
T-Will is not ready yet. Coach G has been the assistant or associate head coach so 2nd in charge at 3 spots now.

Whenever we do make a change I hope the board and the next coach has his priorities in order to some fashion like this.
1. Talent acquisition
2. Talent Retention
3. Talent development
4. Scheme (Culture)
5. In game coaching and adjustments
If I’m hiring that’s the order I’m looking in and I would express that’s my expectation for a new coach. Do all those and winning becomes much easier

Coach G is Rodney Garner I assume? I like the knows Auburn and how everything works, good and bad. Can recruit, was he well liked by the right people? If so, he would probably get their support. The support that it might be too late, and/or impossible for Harsin to get. I'd be for it.

Yes Coach G is Rodney. And for all those that say go young. Coach G is only 55. Harsin is 45. Dabo is 52. Jimbo is 56. Brian Kelly is 60. Mel Tucker is 50.
Dell McGee is 48. I would take McGee over T-Will at this point
T-Will is 39. Let him DC for a few more years. Around 45-50 then go knocking on his door if needed and is a quality replacement and maybe he catches a job like a Tulane or LaMo FIU something like that to cut his teeth on

If we make a change, we need to the right the wrong that caused us to have to make that change. That problem seems to be recruiting. McGee or Rodney would instantly right that wrong. Beyond that, who knows. Surrounded by the right coaches, and allowing them to do their jobs why couldn't they be successful?

Exactly. I trust Rodney not to meddle in the defense and offense more then I do Dell. I think Dell still wants to have say in offense and I don’t have a problem with the head coach calling plays or anything like that but I think both Garner and McGee would be better true head coaches that delegate.
But both would be on the short lists of any candidates I considered if I were doing the hiring.

The absolute worst that could happen is they leave, and the cupboard is stacked. Alot of talent on board would possibly attract a higher level coach at that point?

Of course your top two connections are auburn folks. I am so tired of hiring people just because of their history with auburn.

That was exactly my point when I brought it up a few months ago. Worst that could happen would be bad coaching with a talented roster. But I think Coach G has been around the block long enough to have an idea of who he might want as a staff if given the opportunity and would hire some solid coaches.

Right now an Auburn guy would get support Harsin can't. Believe me, I got tired of it too in the past. But in the NIL era a coach needs support from the right people. If they were well liked they will get that support.
