They don't have a transfer QB committed so of course he needs to sell Ashford as the guy for now. What else is he supposed to say? "I have no idea who will be throwing the football to you next season"?

Yea, you don't really go and try and recruit a kid and talk about the 2-3 guys that could potentially be throwing him the ball, even if that is reality. At a minimum, Freeze can pitch what he did with Willis as being a very similar situation. In his system though, Holden could very well be good and we know we will bring in a transfer QB too.

We play 5 DBs on most downs so the general thought is you need 3 times the number of players at a spot. So OL and DB around 13-15 scholarship players. DL 10-12 scholarship players. Edge/OLB 4-5 inside backers 4-5. WRs 12 or so RBs 4 QBs 4 TE 4-5. You may be heavy on one spot and short on another but those are your general numbers

I didn’t say Ashford was it. Gerinier wasn’t a bad QB out of HS. Seems similar to what freeze is recruiting

Some of you let a halfway decent game against Alabama forget about 25 fumbles this year from robby. I don't dislike robby. He's obviously a great athlete and fits some of what Freeze likes to do. But unless there's a drastic improvement in throwing and ball security i don't see him being the guy. I like the Sanders kid

I'm going to let you guys in on a secret. Ashford may suck but nobody was going to look comfortable with our OL, WR corps, and coaching last year.

Transfer WR Nick Mardner is visiting. Played last season at Cincinatti but didn’t put up a ton of stats. Had 900+ yards and 5 TDs in 2021 at Hawaii.

That's the only reason Ashford played so much...no other QB on our roster could scramble out of blitzes and make plays. If we can pull together a competent line, then we need to lead it with a competent QB.
