They just don’t tell you what you want to hear, they tell you what you need to hear. You could tell by meeting with them and sitting down with them that they just want the best out of you.”

Quote from 247 on Wake Forest transfer DL Rondell Bothroyd. He’s got a ton of offers and is visiting a lot of schools quickly, it looks like.

General note for the portal guys —

Jan 4-8th we’ll see a ton of visitors. Then there’s a dead period until the 13th.

Last day to add classes at Auburn is the 18th so there’s gonna be two batches of visitors, essentially, and if guys don’t visit for long it’s for logistical reasons.

Zack Blackerby broke that Brennan Armstrong visited today, and Spencer Sanders visits this weekend.

Transfer WR Thrash told 247 that when he entered the portal he knew where he wanted to go but now Auburn has changed that and now he has a decision to make.

Not sure what the other school is

Thrash was asked about the QB:

quote:

“Yes sir, obviously because I need to know who’s giving me the ball,” Thrash said. “He told me about Robby (Ashford) and he was just saying that he feels like he can probably polish Robby to be a quarterback that he can be. Last year he really didn’t like to throw the ball, but obviously he probably will now. Coach Freeze had a lot of confidence in Robby and talked highly of him in the meeting.”

I think Spencer Sanders will eventually get a serious look.

Zac Blackerby said tonight he’s heard that Sanders is now expected to visit in the next week.

Freeze can now tell him about the 4 OTs and the other OL we got to protect the next QB. I wouldn't have tried to close a QB before securing some of these guys first either. I'd think a QB will be next, then the WRs will fall into place. Feels like Freeze has been very deliberate about doing it this way

Seems like around 10 but it's a fluid situation. I imagine we can take as many players as we reasonably want right now and if numbers become an issue, some processing might occur

One thing about haskins recruiting, or lack there of, that I disagree with is the fact covid hampered his recruiting. It actually hampered the great recruiting schools and hid his weaknesses, which became all the more apparent as covid restrictions were removed.

You put those guys on the practice field and ask them to make some throws, along with Geriner, and you will find the best qb of the 3 is already on campus.

We need a QB with experience, if for nothing else just for insurance, but Id roll the dice and wait til spring if this is what is out there.

Seems its 3am and we are convincing ourselves, after nine beers, that the chick really isnt that bad.

It hampered everyone’s recruiting which would effect the school that isn’t there usual choice more.

Harsin had to sell people his vision of the program, that it would work, and to get to want to be a part of something new.

Saban/Smart don’t really have to sell anything anymore.

I tend to agree. I’d like to think our starting QB is already on campus. Freeze is smart. He’s not going to outright say Ashford isn’t it. He’ll let it play out, find Ashford a way to contribute with his legs, and move forward without making the people that like Ashford, as a person, upset or causing a divide in the locker room

Freeze is obviously selling Robbie to recruits because he is the incumbent known quantity.

Freeze isnt closing the door on Robbie getting overtaken in August in early February. That would be dumb.
