Are there "dates" for the transfer portal guys that are important coming up? What Im getting at is, when would we know they portal guys who are available and when we would sign them by?
As I understand it there are two portal windows. The first opened Dec 5 and goes 45 days to Jan 19 I think, but for most enrolling in the Spring the real deadline is the last day to enroll at the school of choice which for Auburn is about at that Jan 19 deadline. The second portal window is much shorter and opens in the Spring for about a week or so. Grad transfers have no windows and can enter at any time of the year.

Another point: The windows are when a player can enter the portal. Once their name is in the portal, they can transfer whenever they want so someone can enter the portal now but not transfer until the fall if they choose. They just have to transfer before the Fall semester drop add day to enroll for the Fall and play the season.

Doesn't really sound like alot compared to the number of recruits we go after.
Getting early solid commits goes a long way with helping this as you only spend 1 OV on those signings/position
For example, 10 early commits means 46 OVs for 15 slots or 3.06/slot vs 0 early commits = 2.24/slot

Dilli,
Arent we in a dead period which ends on the 4th? So that means between the 4th and 18th we have to sign a lot of recruits to make spring practice, wowsir, gonna be busy.
And I did not realize the OV situation. So we have signed roughly 23 on 52 OVs and need to sign another 17 with only 4 OVs left, better give them a map and a self touring app

You are correct. During this dead period the only contact coaches can have with portal players is on campus visits. So yes, we have a very short time to get transfer commits for Spring.

I thought the dead period was only for high school players? If the only contact we can have with transfer players is school visits how have we been offering players during the dead period without them visiting?
Disregard above because it looks like the only prohibitive contact is on campus visits - everything else is good to go.

While the term “dead period” makes it seem like all recruiting stops during this time, that’s actually not the case. Athletes and coaches are still allowed to communicate via phone, email, social media and other digital communication channels. While NCAA Division 1 programs are prohibited from conducting any in-person recruiting, D1 college coaches can still contact student-athletes via digital forms of communication during the dead period.

Auburn has been talking to portal LB Ahmad McCullough from Maryland. He had a solid season and has 2 years of eligibility left

I’m sure most of those 17 will come from guys who have OVd already

Thanks for pointing this out. “No Contact” during the dead period refers to in-person. I had not caught that. Makes sense with offers going out and what not.

I have to believe we are going to move a DB or two to LB. We dont seem to have targeted many and we are stacking DBs like cordwood.
Some of them are larger than what Zacoby played at and he was a terror with his speed.
Least I hope so, and I hope Woodyard steps up to help Riley.

Zion Puckett is 6’ 230 (same size as Zakoby his last year) right now at S. I’d have to think he could transition to LB fairly easily. Looking over the roster he seems to be the only DB that could move up size wise.

I wouldn’t mind Jayden Daniels staying at LSU and Nussmeier going to portal and Hugh picks him up. He can sling the ball pretty good and has decent mobility

He’s a safety at 6’3 195 lbs. looks like a spitting image of Smoke imo.
Though he does look like he could add 20-30 lbs over time.

Didn’t Daniels already say he’s staying?

Seems like he only had a bad OC last year. If he really likes his 2021 OC then I guess he is headed to NC State.

Was on a really good trajectory from a stat perspective until last year. Not sure what the cause was.

Seen enough of that guy. For a QB2, come on down.
