It’s called Work Life Balance. It’s not fair to ask these guys to work OT anymore

If you honestly think an SEC head coach can get a pass for not visiting high schools in their own state for the sake of work-life balance, you are out of your mind.

You don't go into this profession expecting much work life balance because your career is usually short relative to other careers (usually) and you get paid absurd amounts of money to ensure success in the program. There is a tradeoff there that you don't seem to realize exists in the real world. A D1 head coach is not the only profession that sacrifices work-life balance for higher pay.

My apologies if so. I'm terrible at interpreting tone on here...

Should coaches be watching recruits on Friday nights? There's a conversation on another board about how he watches his son's games instead of going on the road recruiting. If other SEC head coaches are watching recruits games on Friday nights, then I assume Harsin is being paid enough to do the same. There are other jobs where you can have your Friday nights back. Assuming that's how this stuff works. I don't necessarily know all the contact rules.

Family before football. If he was a successful coach you wouldn’t ask him to bend that fact. Not necessary to bend now..

I don’t think a handful of Friday nights are what these coaches are commenting on either

Gotcha. I don't know what the expectations would be there.

The articles, the beat writers, the questions at press conferences. The media is lining up with the truth and not puff pieces because they all know what is coming.

Wow,

If all this is accurate about what these HS coaches are saying, and I have no reason to doubt that they’re saying it, then coach Harsin is a failure on every level as HC of Auburn. He deserves to be fired with cause imo.

I know you were only asking a question so pay no mind to this.

This reminds me of a Friday night with Gus. It was probably 2015 or 2016 and Gus was struggling on offense bad. People got bitchy or mad because Gus visited his friends in Arkansas on a Friday night instead of going over game plans. That’s all.

Friday walkthrough was already done. There was no reason in the world to be going over the gameplan then. Any alterations would’ve been too late. Yet, fans were extremely petty about Gus. Eventually even the few things he did right wasn’t good enough. That’s when things are nauseatingly painful on both sides because sanity still has to stick whether Gus was a shite coach or not.

Yea there's a big difference between being bad at your job versus not putting enough effort into your job. The former sucks but most people will get time to correct things, but the latter is inexcusable. Just trying to parse out what's what here.

Yeah the effort part sucks. I think he’s okay if his son is playing ball though.

Harsin and brumbaugh went to see Smith and Russaw the Friday night before Penn State.

But I don’t fault a guy going to watch his son play I’m sure he misses a lot with the job responsibilities he has. But there are plenty of times for Harsin to visit schools and coaches across the state without meeting with a player or recruit so a big thumbs down on that portion

Clemente posted that IMG is playing CPC on Friday and then they'll attend the Auburn game on Saturday and he listed a few recruits that'll be in attendance:

4* UGA commit Gabriel Harris

2024 5* RB Jerrick Gibson

3* OU commit Phil Picciotti

4* Edge Cameron Lenhardt (former Nebraska commit)

Harris was supposed to visit for the Mercer game but those plans fell through when the state of GA complicated his eligibility at Valdosta and he transferred to IMG. He's also friends with recent commit Adam Hopkins.

Gibson camped at Auburn this summer and planned to return this fall. His early leaders are UGA, TN, and TX

Lenhardt doesn't seem to be a target at this time but could be a name to watch down the line.

Auburn has turned most of its attention to Arkansas commit Sanford but Picciotti is a name to watch this weekend.

Aren’t they using Auburn facilities to practice before the game this Friday night as well? Could be a good introduction for class of ‘24 and ‘25 players to Auburn regardless of who the coach is. Put Reed on them to tell them about AU.
