Agreed. I don’t think anyone is rooting against Robby. Best case scenario is that he suddenly becomes a much better passer. I think most of us are just very skeptical of his ability to improve enough to earn the starting job.

Geriner definitely had a unique motion in HS. To whomever’s question about his deep balls — I think that’s probably where he’s most comfortable

I think it’s why guys wanted him to throw to them at pro day

Huge difference in throwing good balls in drills versus during games. Seems to be what keeps Geriner down the depth chart

Are you E2C or are you the inside source?

That's not what he said. Listen again.

Here's exactly what he said.

quote:

There's already some discussion today amongst some other Auburn media members that Robbie Ashford is the going favorite to win it at this point. Now that's just one, you know, person...or group's opinion and I don't necessarily disagree with it. I think this thing is as wide open as it can be right now.

He made no other reference in the video to having an inside source. Moreover, he made no claim to seeing or hearing from others who have seen the QB competition.

Pretty much where I’m at on this.

Three practices in, without a scrimmage, we are as wide open as can be

While true, the number of in-game opportunities can be counted on one hand without using all fingers.

I don’t think after 1 day in pads we even have a pecking order at the QB spot. I think these first few practices I’m sure Freeze and Co. wanted to see what Thorne has to offer skill wise. Now the race begins. And from here we should be down to 2 guys after the fist scrimmage. We have 3 really good QB coaches I think they will make the right decisions

With QBs I think once we get into actual defenses, which they will throw a lot of different looks at the QBs, we will have a better idea than just their ability to throw. What was Freeze's comments on evaluation, three things.

First, does he SEE what he is looking at (is it man or zone, cover 2, blitz, disguised as man)

Two, does he make the right decision off what he sees

Three, can he make the throw.

I don’t GAF which guy wins the QB job. I hope each and every QB practices and performs so well that every QB not named the starter is *pissed* at being on the bench.

Drive to perform and compete. Never settle for just 99%. That’s what I hope every player in that QB room is thinking and doing.

And when its time to choose, I want the Top G.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Robbie pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

The linebacker position seems wide open. Ron Roberts really praised former North Carolina transfer Eugene Asante, and seemed to put the pressure on redshirt freshman Robert Woodyard..... “We have a good competition there. I don’t know how it’s going to pan out. There’s about six over there competition and nobody has really stepped up and pulled away from the pack.

quote:

Roberts said of Asante, “he’s made huge strides. He’s a physical talent. Runs well, plays hard, plays with excitement and emotion. I thought he’s done a good job of understanding the defense more and that’s put him in a good spot. He’s in a spot to compete for a starting job.”

And of Woodyard, Roberts said, “Robert, he’s young and still trying to figure this thing out. The next 10 days will be big for him. If you want to get into the hunt, it’s about consistency.”

quote:

With true freshman Keldric Faulk moving to defensive end from “jack,” Roberts likes the potential of Faulk with his hand in the dirt. Either way, Faulk will be an integral part of the Tigers’ defense immediately.

#1 Auburn podcaster Ashford hater, Zac Blackerby, said his sauces told him that Ashford looked good passing this weekend, so there’s also that.
