Really 5?
Wonder if most of them either were already connected to Their new coaching staff already while in LA and bc some are Florida guys trying to play in the big SEC?
But it would be interesting behind the scenes if Harsin hoped keeping Friend was his only option to get any of the ones Friend and Bobo had already been working on.
And failed up to now.

I think someone else posted it the other day and I'm starting to agree.. these guys are coming back because we missed on our portal targets. I don't think they factored into portal players decision to come here or not.
I remember that comment, and Im still not certain what it means. They had a covid year if they wanted it. They didnt enter the portal. From the coaches side, it does not count against the 25 schollies, and given the attrition, certainly will not affect an 85 limit (though I dont think that applies during this covid year for covid kids anyway). And even if I had the reincarnation of the Hannah boys signed, I would still want proven multi year starters back for another year.
I think its what Jonesy said, they wanted another year of being a BMOC, being identified as a player on the team has its fringe benes

And I certainly think they will help. Always remember, the players we currently have on the team could not beat them out. At least two people are happy they are back, me and Calzada.

I already announced he was visiting today and tomorrow.
We may be in a good spot but he will have other visits to take afterwards.

Curious as to what Citizen is looking for at this late date?
Is he that good he would be starter on a SEC team? He knows he’s going to be behind Tank.

Yeah he’s a game breaking kind of talent at RB with his speed and ability to make guys miss
As for what he’s looking for — he’s not an EE and 2 places that were his finalists had coaching changes.

Assante
quote:
Good, long frame that can easily hold 220 pounds. Inside linebacker mentality with outside linebacker ability. Best suited for 4-3 defense. Plus acceleration and possesses closing speed. Tackles through the player. Disruptive and physical playing downhill. Good body control. Moves well laterally and has good change of direction. Physical. Can get to edge against the run. Plays with urgency, passion. Reacts quickly against run. Must get more consistent in pass coverage drop depth. Work on covering running back or tight end is needed. Increasing upper body strength is important. Multi-year starter at Top-20 program. Projects as a fourth- to sixth-round NFL draft pick.

He’s the backup linebacker at UNC.

Boy you really hate everyone huh?

Hell he has a warm body. Bring him on

Won’t hurt to have an experienced LB in the room with Wooten and McClain gone.
No idea if he’ll start or not but he’ll probably have an opportunity to rotate in.

What would you suggest be done? Take the lists of finalists for every major award, and all returning All Americans and hold them at gunpoint until they enter the portal and choose Auburn?
You bitch about us getting small school starters, you bitch about big school backups. I agree with some of what you say, but what would meet your approval?

What small school starters? You mean JUCO’s because yes I have bitched about juco strategies.
I also already gave that preferred solution. No more than 2 jucos per year

You're right we always whiff on juco guys.

We signed several last year and had little impact.
If you like signing copious amounts of jucos go root for Mississippi State. That strategy is nothing special.

I think others have been critical of small school starters but I don’t think it was Janga.
Someone last week here criticized Auburn for pursuing Kyren Lacy and almost immediately criticized Auburn for whiffing on him
But it wasn’t Janga.
I think we’ve done mostly OK on the true small school guys. Fair, Harris, Knighten come to mind there. The JUCOs we took last year didn’t move the needle for us but we took 3 I think: Ro Torrence, Kamal Hadden (we released him to Tennessee after the coaching change) and Joko Willis.
Torrence played sparingly and Joko mostly played special teams. He’s the more interesting of the two.
I’ll say that the caliber of JUCO guys we brought in this season were a big step up in quality.

So all of our problems are solved by only taking 2 juco kids/year? What other policies would you put into place?
