I don't think there's much to figure out. We don't have any guys who would be considered "shooters". We are going to have to win low scoring, scrappy, grind it out games this year I think. Hopefully USF just has our number and is a mismatch for our guys but man it even feels like we can't get any good bounces on the rim

Yeah I feel ya. I think that will come. Broome I think could be a big part of it but Bruce is pretty worried about his ankle right now. Wonder if they will sit him and slide Traore or Jaylin to split minutes at the 5 with Cardwell until he gets healthy.

I think we need to be intentional about Jaylin getting looks too. Maybe Westry will be a boost. Right now when Green isn’t on the floor we literally can’t score.

Broome was off today. He was struggling even in shootaround. BP has the tough task of figuring out scoring when WG isn’t out there for sure. Tre isn’t bad at iso but the game hasn’t slowed down enough to run the offense yet.

We aren’t a great shooting team but we need to have a few decent nights for guys to have a little confidence. We hesitated on several open threes because guys were gun-shy.

KD is still the same guy. He’s going to have games that he’s unstoppable and everything is falling and then he’s going to have games like tonight that literally can’t make a layup.

Westry will help some but he’s more known for creating and facilitating.

I have to agree. It’s not gonna be a bad season by any stretch but we are gonna have grind the entire conference season and it definitely took its toll on us last year.

Our defense is very good. But our guards aren’t playing great defensively.

Tonight was a very physical game and I thought KD, Broome, Yohan and Zep all looked very uncomfortable and KD and Broome bitching about every call I was tired of seeing. Yes the officials were not good but you’re not gonna get any every call on both ends of the floor.

Great adjustments at the half with more back cut motion it opened the floor up for the drive. I know Zep was 0-fer from 3 but dude has to take open shots he passed up probably 3 wide open looks.

With all that said let’s get better because there are areas other then 3 point shooting we can get better at.

I think the next couple of games can be confidence builders on offense. As of now I think we drop a game in that tournament to Bradley or Northwestern but if we can see the ball go through the net a bunch against Winthrop and Texas Southern maybe that can loosen us up a bit. I agree guys like Zep just have to let it fly, the hesitation is killing us. We have enough data on him to have to be ok with him shooting open threes so he just needs to fling it up there.

As far as the rest of the season, I have no idea. Could be bumpy but we have a lot of pieces. Good test for BP’s coaching. I know Flanigan had the turnovers but I remain encouraged by him. He looks like he did his sophomore year athletically and with the jumper

Vols lost to a Colorado team that got handled easily by Grambling the other night. 1-13 from three in the second half and they have some really good shooters. November hoops can be weird

Aden has officially signed. That’s a big get. He’s an excellent shooter.

Definitely the best shooting guard we have signed since Bryce Brown. Wonder if Bruce likes him at the 1 or at the 2.

My guess is that he starts at the 2 primarily and get some minutes at the 1. Everything I’ve seen on him is “impressive shooter and shot creator, still developing as a facilitator.” Either way he’s a scorer which is what we will need.

Aden is the 5th highest-rated, per 24/7, high school player to ever sign at Auburn.
Behind Jabari Smith '21, Sharife Cooper '20, Mustapha Herron '16, and Yohan Traore '22.
Bruce Pearl, God bless you, sir.

See anything on how he projects defensively? Looks like a small frame. Don't need him to be Okoro, just need competence.

Nah the scouting reports I’ve seen are all about his offense. My guess is he’s probably just an average defender since nothing has mentioned him being good or bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to hide him some on defense when playing really good PGs like we did with Jared and Sharife.

Seems like Chance would be perfect to play alongside him if he comes back for another year…

Here’s the 247 scouting report on him from July:
quote:

Holloway is one of the best shooters in the class. He has a ton of gravity as a spot-up shooter, has deep range without altering his mechanics, can come off screens, and has a compact release. He’s also a tough shot-maker off the dribble who can create space with step-backs or by using his body, and does an excellent job of getting both feet set underneath him. While he came up the ranks as more of an undersized two-guard, he has shown real progression with his playmaking within the last year. He’s playing with pace in the open floor, starting to throw some impressive passes more frequently, and taking care of the basketball with better than a three-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio. After playing alongside Fears in high school and Dillingham in the EYBL, he has yet prove himself as a full-time handler and decision-maker against highest level competition though. Physically, he lacks great size, length, or sheer athleticism, but is competitive enough to compensate.

I'll add, if Chance returns.. WGJr., Chance, Aden on a Bruce Pearl team would be the best trio of guards in the country.

Definitely the best ball handling group. Those three on the court would tough to defend since you could trigger your offense with any of them. Imagine that group with a stretch 5 running a 5 out offense.
