I know and mentioned it in the other post. I was just as shocked then as I am now. Garner is going to have to pull out some magic this year or we are going to end up recruiting juco guys.

Omari Thomas, McKinnley Jackson, Andy Boykin are all very realistic targets still.

I think we get Omari Thomas, McKinnley Jackson is a toss up to me right now... I favor us, but if Bama comes with a serious offer I think he will pick them. Who knows with Boykin right now though. Last I heard the coaches want to see him play this year. I'm not melting or anything (Def surprised and still think we shouldn't be missing guys to Tenn) but I am concerned a little.

We really need Mckinley Jackson. Don’t like our depth there.

Funny you should mention that...

War Room notes from JLee

-AU will press for Miami commit Romello Height after missing on BJ as a Buck target (Keith has said the same)
-AU likely won't go after 4* Buck Donnell Harris
-Will also work to try to flip Q Robinson back
-If AU can't land a Buck it wants that spot may go to a 3rd DT, planning to take 2 already, or a 2nd Strongside End

-McKinley Jackson, Omari Thomas, & Texas A&M commit Dallas Walker are the top high school DT targets
-Former commitment Andy Boykin has fallen down the board due to academics
-Staff is also tracking in-state 4^ DT Eric Taylor (LSU commit), former AU commit Damarjhe Lewis,
& Jaden Hardy to see how they progress this season
-Expect AU to sign 1 juco DT & 1-2 HS DTs

-AU would take Zykeivous Walker or Jay Hardy as a 2nd Strongside End in the class

-No change on the DB front.

-Webb is the only LB we would add to this class

Based on info out right now our chances are higher with Jackson than Thomas FWIW.

A couple new names there (At least to me) Haven't heard Dallas Walker or Eric Taylor mentioned much at all in regards to us. Nice at least see some more targets popping up.

To go along with your post I just read KN's recruiting update and someone asked about Q Robinson and if we might take a look at juco for DT
quote:

Just talked to Robinson's coach and I think that ship has sailed for Auburn. 2. Auburn definitely will be looking at the junior colleges for tackles ...and I would imagine you'll also see the Tigers exploring the grad transfer market next year. There's a chance any way. Will a legit SEC-type of tackle emerge this fall in the junior colleges? That's the question. Also, Auburn would have to decide, if there's nobody who could start for them from the junior colleges, how bad would depth be needed? A lot to be determined here.

Who's the favorite for Omari Thomas right now then? All the interviews I've read seems like he's really high on us. And the only reason I think McKinnley Jackson is a toss up is the Bama situation. I'm not too worried about Ole Miss right now.

Likely Ole Miss. Keith said in a random post a few days ago that Thomas would be tough to get. He hasn't said that about Jackson recently.

Also just because a team from the same conference isn't as good on the field doesn't mean they can't win recruiting battles against better teams. It happens some every year.

If we miss him to Ole Miss I'm going full melt. I'm just letting everyone know ahead of time lol. I saw they had a crystal ball in for them, but their guys are also big time homers so I didn't pay it much attention.

Generally I agree, but we can't afford to miss on needs to schools we should be out recruiting.

I wouldn’t melt about a Memphis kid going to Ole Miss

Again, generally I agree. With the staff we have and how good they are at recruiting we can't afford to miss out on positions of need though. After this year DT depth is not looking too great. I thought Handy and Moore would come in way bigger than they did and provide some depth there, but they are looking like DE's right now.

Just to give an example.. I'm not too worried if we miss on Webb. We have tons of depth at buck. But missing one of the better DTs in the class when we have a clear need for DTs is far from ideal. Nearly every year we miss on a position and so far we are getting beat out at DT.

Are you new to recruiting man? Schools beat out better programs for recruits all the time.

I understand that. I'm saying we can't afford for them to beat us out at DT. Look at DT depth next year a tell me I'm wrong. We will have Coynis Miller, Truesdell and Newkirk who is coming off of 2 achilles injuries. I said earlier there's still a long way to go and Garner is a closer, but its by far our biggest position of need going into next year.

I was mostly joking hence the lol at the end. I don't think I've ever melted. I don't control recruiting so I can't bother to get too worked up about it. But like I said, we can't afford to miss at DT this year.

How did the cupboard get so bare at DT? I know we had one change to OL, we had Newkirk get hurt along with Coynis, We have Truesdale....di we only have 5 to begin with?

And the plan is & always has been for Moore to get bigger & move inside before next season. That's 4 with planning to add 2-3 more in this class. That's 6-7 & plenty in terms of number on roster barring any serious injuries or attrition.

Yeah with no injuries I don’t see our depth being that bad. There’s no standout guy because Brown and Davidson have been here forever. Russell too

Foe this season, 6 when you count the snaps Coe & Marlon will get inside.

He came in smaller than expected though. He needs to gain somewhere around 30 lbs.. Not impossible, but not easy either. Newkirk is a big question mark too after his injuries.

In more positive news Tank is off to fast start in his preseason game tonight. 90 yard TD run
