We whiffed on all the RBs we were recruiting, again. Six weeks ago they found this guy who was not a take for UAT and UGA. I hope he does turn out to be a great find.

To be fair the only reason he wasn’t a take for them was because they were waiting on the clear cut #1 back

Bama thought DJ was going to be the next Josh Jacobs...I think we have other positions more worth our concern.

I'm not worried about RB. We always find good enough RBs. Whitlow was a low 4 star/high 3 star and he was very solid. Tre Mason was barely a four star recruit and he was excellent for us. The issue is def OLine and QB. We have good depth everywhere else. We also need a Cox replacement.

The only thing we’ve fricked up so far the the OL, which is a considerable frick-up.

Sad part is that Ole Miss signed 6 OTs in this class and an OG. Even Matt Luke is better at roster management than Gus.

He does the same thing with his praise for a player (J. Wallace).

The Wallace thing was mostly a joke. I did want to sign him because Zeke Pike caught me as an idiot who would bust out. Which I was right about.

The only one I've really been wrong about was Mason in 2012. But he did get most of his yards that year ooc play.

Who did we whiff on? I’ll give you Cain. But there’s a lot of evidence that Auburn moved on. Who else? Because Williams is only two spots below Cain on 247. Only other guy we’ve been on for a while is Mark-Antony Richards and we’re the favorite to sign him in February.

Pretty sure he was a two star because he was not supposed to qualify.

Keep in mind this was jus the early signing day. There’s still a few months to go
roughly 80% of available prospects have signed per SBNation and anyone we’re recruiting an olineman against just has to text that Braden Smith/Indy Star article and any intelligent kid will be looking in other directions

We’re not going to help ourselves on the OL. We might get Bell or that kid from London but major additions to the signing class possibly include Pickens, Moore, and Mark-Antony Richards.

I think this early signing day is short lived. It’s either all going to be early or they’re going back to the first Wednesday in February. The point of my reply is that we’re going to add several more recruits and our ranking is going to improve accordingly; we’re not done yet.

Wow, that article is brutal against Gus and Auburn.

I was curious how a reporter in Indianapolis came to hate Auburn so bad.

The article was written by Joel Erickson a former AL.com reporter.

Now it makes sense.

But yes, having that out there definitely hurts OL recruiting

not sure that‘s fair to him tbh. He always seemed like good people. Was in Columbus before moving to AL.com and always did a good job imo

I seem to remember a few of the other beat guys lamenting his leaving

Joel was a pretty good Auburn beat reporter for AL.com if not the best. I guess Joel thought he was writing the truth with the Brayden article, but it doesn’t help our recruiting efforts. Joel was recently with the Saints and not sure of tbe reason for the move. Maybe he felt like a stronger and pointed article would help his stability as a journalist and his knowledge of Auburn and Brayden Smith were the means.

One article on G Rob is by far the most damning to our recruiting efforts though. It basically said we spray painted a pile of shite gold and robbed the Rams of their money.

Meh. Hit piece. He lost me when he blamed the HUNH offense for lack of good OL. First, we aren’t the only ones that run that. Second, we don’t even run it like we should. Just more Al.com bullshite from another city.

Yea Joel was a solid writer while here. Many auburn people liked him and I enjoyed his blog The War Eagle Reader. He never came across as a hater of Auburn even when he would do the videos with Brandon Marcello for al.com. Actually Marcello didn't become total garbage until Joel left.
