Who was it that was saying that Kodi Burns is the worst recruiter and turns off every coach/recruit he has ever met?

I was in that conversation about a month ago as well, and You and I both know who it was. It is so easy to look back. He was also asked to explain and he replied with nothing.

That is why i just let it go and let the results speak for themselves because I feel Coach Burns' best days are ahead of him and I have complete trust in him as a person.

It was me. Burns was in fact the worst recruiter on the staff. Didn't get shite done. One recruit, who hasn't even fricking committed to us yet (let alone signed) saying a nice thing, doesn't change anything. Yeah, maybe he's young and is in the process of figuring it out. Are we a training-wheels school now? This isn't North Albuquerque State; we were paying Kodi Burns over a 100K more than Travis Williams last season to neither coach nor recruit at the same level (it wasn't even close). In fact, I'm pretty sure that Burns' $350K was right in line with what Tim Horton made. What do you want me to explain? No, I don't have audio recordings of his interactions with recruits or coaches. I was told that he sucked, and the results back that up: who the frick did he sign? The late-developing track kid who would have came here regardless?

It was his first year on the job and we were stacked at WR.. seemed like a convenient time to get his foot in the door of future prospects in the next few classes.. and he does wear his ring. You know, that 2010 National Championship ring.

Agreed was a disappointing WR class last cycle but not shocked by it considering our passing game. If we fail to land any high profile guys this year then I think this opinion will have merit but hard for me to think Burns is the worst thing in the world just yet. If he can't land any of Justyn Ross, Jacob Copeland, Matthew Hill, Kearis Jackson and Seth Williams then I am gonna have some real concerns but until then I am gonna hold off on considering Burns a waste of space as a recruiter

Auburn’s offer to 2019 cornerback Devin Bush has him ‘amped up’ (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn didn’t hand out any offers during its most recent junior day festivities — save one. That single offer didn’t even go out to a 2018 target.

It went to Devin Bush.

Bush is a relative unknown on the recruiting trail, which instantaneously changes with the offer from the Tigers. He is a 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback from New Orleans who until Saturday, didn’t have 247Sports, Rivals or Scout recruiting pages.

That all changed when Auburn became Bush’s second overall offer. Nicholls State is the other.

It set the tone for a big-time recruitment to come.

“It was a real blessing. I was real amped up. I had to call to tell my mom. She was real happy about it. My friends were happy about it. It was all good,” Bush said. “That’s really important. I’m truly blessed to say they pulled the trigger and took that chance to offer me.”

Bush joined a few teammates on the trip up from Edna Karr (La.).

While Auburn is his first SEC offer, it won’t be his last. Bush has plans to get to Florida for the Gators’ junior day later in the spring. He’s also been in communication with Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama. Bush specifically cites Texas A&M as one of his “dream schools.”

Once more offers come in, Bush will gather more clarity on what he wants in a college program. Auburn has entered its name into the conversation, and it’ll be hard to remove the Tigers.

“I’m really interested in Auburn. This is a big SEC school. Their defensive backs are real nice. I watched them practice. It’s real nice. I’ll consider them in my top 10 (once more offers come in),” Bush said. “It’s a nice place. Their dorms are nice. I really liked their tour. I like the weight room, the locker room. It’s a nice place. It’s beautiful.”

Bush is one of many 2019 defensive backs Auburn has offered since defensive backs coach Greg Brown assumed his role. The Louisiana cornerback had a brief sit-down with Brown during his junior day visit, which helped set the tone for the positive visit that followed.

It won’t be Bush’s last time on the Plains.

“He’s a good guy. He sat me down for a little bit and talked to me. I really liked that,” Bush said. “I plan on coming back soon.”

Defensive end target emerges

Kingsley Enagbare visited Auburn on Saturday for junior day. He left without an offer, but that didn’t last long.

Enagbare received an offer from the Tigers on Monday evening, which gives an idea of another Buck defensive end target Auburn will chase in the 2018 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound weakside defensive end is the No. 26 overall player at his position, according to 247Sports composite rankings. Enagbare plays for Hapeville Charter in Atlanta, which is starting to become a factory for SEC talent.

He also holds offers from Georgia, Maryland, NC State, UNC, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Mr. Football La'Damian Webb will 'wait it out' with Auburn (Al.com)
quote:

La'Damian Webb doesn't have an offer from Auburn yet, but he's remaining patient.

"They're telling me that they're going to wait and see," said Webb after his trip to Auburn last weekend for Junior Day. "I'll wait it out for a while and see how it goes."

The state's reigning Mr. Football winner has picked up offers from Bowling Green, Indiana, Iowa State, Louisville, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Toledo and Troy so far. He's hoping to add Auburn to that list soon.

"It would be pretty good," Webb said. "They'd definitely be in my top five.

"I like their playing style. I think I'd be a great fit with them. They said I'm perfect with the offense they run, especially with the new offensive coordinator, Chip (Lindsey). I'd give them more options to get the ball open in space."

The 5-foot-8, 184-pounder put up big-time numbers as a junior at Beauregard in nearby Opelika last fall. He tallied 3,342 rushing yards and a state-record 53 total touchdowns. Beauregard defeated Wenonah 33-13 in the AHSAA Class 5A state championship game in December as Webb rushed a whopping 51 times for 359 yards and five scores.

"With (things like) the inside zone, he's got the ability to not be seen," Beauregard head coach Rob Carter told AL.com in January. "He kind of hides behind all those big linemen."

Webb has no timetable for a commitment and has "not really thought" about narrowing down his list of offers yet. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has signed three of the last five Mr. Football winners in Alabama -- Jeremy Johnson in 2012, Roc Thomas in 2013 and Kerryon Johnson in 2014.

Auburn already holds one commitment from a running back in the 2018 recruiting cycle. Three-star all-purpose back Shaun Shivers (5-foot-5, 175 pounds) joined the class last October.

It was T Wills first year on the job as well. A few shoutouts doesn't change the fact that Kodi is our weakest recruiter.

KN did a recruiting chat yesterday. Not a ton came from it but here's a few nuggets

- As of now expect AU to sign less than 25 this cycle, probably in the 22-23 range

- AU feels best about 4* WR Justyn Ross right now when it comes to WR targets and feels like 4* Seth Williams is in play

- When asked about guys underrated right now says 3* ATH Richard Jubinor. Staff loves him. Also mentioned 3* DE Andres Fox

- Asked about pass rushing ends this cycle and says not a great class for them however look for AU to target a LB they think can slide to the buck someone like Michael Harris, Quay Walker and Richard Jubinor

- Thinks goal is to get 4 DL and 4 OL this year

- 4* QB Justin Fields could become a target if things change with Gatewood

- Staff really likes 4* S Brendon Harris

- Asked his thoughts on each position talent this cycle. Here's what he put
QB --- pretty good IMO.
RB -- Okay.
WR -- pretty good
OL -- don't have any opinion. Don't know enough to say
DL -- Not bad
LB- -- Really good
CB -- Really good
Saf -- Not sure

Needs to be a target regardless.

As for Kodi, not sure what he was supposed to do last year? He had nothing to sell whatsoever and we just signed a stacked class the year before so the depth chart didn't look good. The upperclassmen WRs were not good and that wasn't his fault either.

I'm not saying he's great but I'm certainly not holding last year against him. If he can get Ross and one of Williams or Copeland we'll be in good shape.

Top OL target breaks down recruitment (247)
quote:

Will it be Auburn in the end for 4-star offensive guard-center Jalil Irvin of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson? Or can Michigan, North Carolina or Tennessee overcome the Tigers?

According to Irvin, who visited Auburn last weekend, it won't be a long wait for his answer.

"It'll probably be soon," Irvin said. "I'm not going to say when, how soon -- but it will be pretty soon."

Our intel suggests Irvin could announce by the end of this week. For Auburn, that might bode well.

He told AuburnUndercover.com over the weekend he was 99.9 percent close to committing to the Tigers during his junior day visit Saturday. But in recruiting, there are no sure things and the country's No. 18 guard in the industry generated 247Sports Composite has plenty of options.

Last summer, he briefly was committed to Michigan and a recent visit there went well. That's also his home state. Tennessee has facilities that impressed him. North Carolina's program and academics also are something he likes.

"I just want to get it out of the way because I want to enjoy my senior year," Irvin said. "I just want to not have any worries on my shoulders and just want to enjoy my senior year and hopefully win a state championship. Not worry about coaches texting me all the time. Just get it out of the way. Just roll with it."

Kid is way better than Gatewood. Gatewood should be a TE / HB and Fields should be our #1 target
