On Barrett I was going by his words he said in an interview a few months ago. He could have been pumping it up. I didn't think to check the AU roster although I should have.

Dude, almost all our running backs go to the NFL. Rudi, Cadillac/Brown/Jacobs, Irons, Tate, Mason, CAP, Barber. That's almost every starting RB we've had since Bowden left and all were drafted (most in the first 3 rounds) except Barber who left early and he still found a home in Tampa. Dyer is our only #1 RB we've had in 17 years who didn't play in the NFL and it was because he was a moron off the field.

Mason is the only one of those that got a lot of national hype during his college career since Caddy & Ronnie went pro. Almost every #1 RB from Bama gets national hype. That's where your winning comment comes in play. We gotta win big so whoever is toting the rock for us gets him & AU a lot of exposure so the better backs take a stronger look at AU in subsequent classes

Well, the trend is for yet another AU top ten class.

...so three of our rivals will likely finish ahead once again. As it's been for many a year. The trick is probably to not get another top ten class (a hard task itself), but get a top five. We don't have to beat bama there's enough to go around... but GA and LSU are damn near necessities. The more the elite feel this is a better shot for them than those other three the more wins. ... a catch22 for sure. (Edit to remove- half/paragraph of drivel)

It's going to be hard to out-recruit LSU. That State is full of blue chippers.

We get plenty of talent. We just need to coach up our talent better than what we have been doing in the recent past. Our O became very predictable. My wife could call what was coming. Hopefully Chip can fix that problem.

Our main job should simply be to not let LSU take any players from our own back yard. They can have anyone they want in Louisiana (except for Foucha :) ) and East Texas. We need to outrecruit them for the guys in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

4-star Mountain Brook RB Harold Joiner drops 2 major schools from mix (AL.com)
quote:

The recruitment of Mountain Brook star running back Harold Joiner has taken some turns among his top schools.

LSU is no longer the leader or even in the mix, Joiner told AL.com Tuesday, after the Tigers got three commitments within the past week from running backs. The list includes Madison County's Tae Provens.

Georgia is out of the running as well. The Bulldogs picked up a commitment from nation's top running back Zamir White on Tuesday. Joiner recently visited there. Both schools are out, Joiner said, after appearing to fill up at running back.

Joiner took a trip to Alabama last week and said the Crimson Tide coaches are now recruiting him at running back and receiver. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Joiner is a four-star recruit, ranked as the nation's No. 5 running back and No. 138 overall recruit.

But most schools are recruiting him as an athlete, citing his versatility. Alabama has mentioned tight end before, but Joiner has no desire to do that, he said. If running back doesn't work out and Joiner gets taller, he said he is open to playing receiver.

Auburn remains in the mix as the Tigers have been more open with him about playing running back. He spoke with head coach Gus Malzahn earlier this week, per 247Sports.

Alabama and Auburn are also targeting Austin four-star Asa Martin.

USC, Baylor, Texas, Michigan State and TCU are among the latest offers for Joiner, who has around 30.

Joiner was invited to The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore., as a running back. We should get more on where his recruitment stands, if there are new favorites or not, by the end of the week as AL.com will be at the event.

Joiner rushed for 744 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior and caught nine passes for 180 yards and two scores.

The more I read about him more I am skeptical about going after him... Seems like he wants to go to a place where he is the only running back and that's just not gonna be the case in the SEC

'No point in waiting': Tae Provens talks LSU commitment, change in decision timeline (AL.com)
quote:

Tae Provens' loyalty was on full display Wednesday via his socks.

The Madison County 2018 running back, who committed to LSU on Saturday night, sported a pair of socks with purple "Tigers" lettering during the Alabama A&M 7-on-7 in Huntsville. Conveniently for Provens, Madison County also uses the Tigers nickname and a purple/yellow color combo.

Provens' pledge to LSU surprised some. He had stated in multiple interviews, including one in early May with AL.com, that Tennessee was his leader, and he held an offer from Auburn, the team he grew up rooting for. So how did another SEC team manage to get the 6-foot, 183-pounder? Turns out it was a coaching relationship.

USC hired Tommie Robinson as its running backs coach in January 2016, when Provens was a sophomore, and the Trojans offered six months later. LSU offered Feb. 1 of this year, a week before Robinson officially joined the Tigers' staff.

"I was the first back he offered in the Class of 2018 and I was almost the last until they had a little LSU Elite Camp," said Provens, who is rated the No. 50 athlete in the country and the No. 21 player in Alabama by the 247Sports Composite. "But I was perfectly fine with that. I was confident with my decision and I just feel like that was the right place for me."

The camp Provens referred to was held June 22-24 and resulted in commitments form three-star backs Chris Curry of Lehigh Acres (Fla.) and AJ Carter of Many (La.).

Provens tweeted earlier this month that his plan was to commit Aug. 11, but he couldn't hold out that long.

"I already knew where I wanted to go, so there was really no point in waiting," said Provens, whose top five also included South Carolina and Louisville.

Provens didn't waste any time going on the recruiting trail. He could be seen chatting up Lee-Huntsville three-star defensive end Malik Langham during a break at the 7-on-7.

Provens ran for 1,264 yards and 17 touchdowns in 11 games last season. Madison County opens the season at home Sept. 1 against Etowah.

"It feels good to get it out of the way," Provens said of committing, "because now I can sit back and play ball with my boys and spend time with them."

FWIW LSU fans seem to think he won't be apart of their class come NSD

Some updates from Jake Row from UGA 247

- Seems to think that as of right now UGA has a lead for 5* QB Justin Fields. However, he says the biggest threat is Auburn even though they aren't getting a ton of attention nationally. Distance and Cam Newton are two big things in our favor. Says he does not think it's a done deal that Fields is going to UGA and that he is still very much undecided

- So I guess Rowe did not get the message from Joiner as he seems to think UGA is trending up for 4* ATH Harold Joiner. Also says AU is a team to watch as well

- Not a surprise but it appears UGA has a clear lead for Trey Hill right now

LSU asserts itself as a major player for Joseph Foucha (SECCountry)
quote:

LSU puts itself in strong position with Foucha

Joseph Foucha boasts one of the more impressive offer sheets of any defensive back in Louisiana. LSU is the latest team to enter the fray for the standout safety.

The Tigers offered the top-15 Louisiana prospect on Friday after Foucha camped in Baton Rouge during the Thursday session of LSU’s elite high school prospect camp.

The offer did not surprise Foucha, but it did cause a shakeup. The 3-star safety has already released a top 15, but LSU has asserted itself as a major player in the race as Foucha prepares to trim his top schools list down. Consider LSU on pace with favorites such as Auburn, Alabama and Florida State now that he holds the much-anticipated offer.

“It’s shaken things up a lot,” Foucha admitted to SEC Country. “It made me change some numbers at the top (of my top schools list). They’re standing pretty good right now because of the fact that it’s my home-state team and it’s always an honor to play for your home team. Also, the players that they have produced and some that are from my city (New Orleans) like Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson and Leonard Fournette.”

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back from McDonogh 35 (La.) High School has been to Auburn, Alabama and now LSU this summer. In fact, this was the second summer in a row that Foucha has camped at LSU.

This time, however, it’s a new coaching staff in place. Ed Orgeron has made a clear attempt to get the best prospects in Louisiana to stay at home. Once Foucha impressed defensive backs coach Corey Raymond and met with New Orleans area recruiter Mickey Joseph, the offer finally came through. Foucha returned to Baton Rouge for Saturday’s camp as a spectator, but had a chance to reconnect with members of the Tigers’ staff.

In other words, there were no hard feelings about LSU offering late. In fact, it was quite the contrary.

“They were impressed with the way I have improved as a player,” Foucha said. “They saw the dog in me. I always knew [the offer] was coming, so I stayed patient and it wasn’t much of a surprise. Honestly, I knew that I had to show and prove why I should have the offer and that I’m the best in the city on film and off film.”

Foucha plans on narrowing down his top schools list, but is in no rush to give a commitment at this juncture in his recruitment. That will likely come in the fall or after his senior season.

What's gonna suck is when Bama flips one of their DB commits and then they go all in to get Foucha and we are stuck with nada....

Just how close 5-star RB Zamir White was to choosing Alabama and where the Tide turns now (SECCountry)
quote:

All eyes on Asa Martin now

Now that White is off the board, all of the attention shifts to 4-star running back Asa Martin out of Austin High School (Decatur, Ala.). Martin now is the clear top target at the position in the Class of 2018.

If White had committed to the Tide, the team would have also taken Martin’s commitment if he decided to play for it, too. Martin will make his decision on Aug. 24 from finalists Alabama, Auburn and Florida.

I like where Alabama stands with Martin as of today. The Crimson Tide, led by offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, have prioritized Martin since he picked up his offer at A-Day in April. Daboll visited Martin multiple times during the evaluation period and saw him in action at his spring game, where he rushed 8 times for 99 yards and 1 touchdown, with a 67-yard receiving score.

When SEC Country visited with the in-state prospect in April, Florida was his leader and Auburn was in second place. Before he was offered by Alabama, he told us that he felt like he wasn’t a good fit for the Tide’s offense.

“I just don’t really know. … I just don’t think it really fits my style very much,” Martin told SEC Country at the time. “The style of running back I am, I don’t really feel like I fit into that style of offense.

“I’m more like of an open-type, shotgun offense. Spread style.”

He has since changed his stance after further evaluation. Alabama likes the fact that Martin is a true three-down running back and has the catching abilities to even line up in the slot on some plays.

“I went down there and Coach Daboll showed me a bunch of new stuff he installed and I could potentially play defense if I went to Alabama,” Martin said.

From talking with sources close to both Auburn and Florida, both programs have lost the confidence they once held in potentially getting Martin’s commitment. My prediction on which running backs sign with those programs? Harold Joiner goes to Auburn and former Alabama commit Dameon Pierce chooses Florida.
