4-star TE Tyneil Hopper details recent visits to Alabama, Auburn (AL.com)
quote:
"(Auburn) really wanted me to come to their Junior Day (Jan. 24), but I went to Alabama instead," Hopper told AL.com earlier this week. "Coach Porter invited me to come down today. I really enjoyed everything."
Porter, who was hired from North Carolina last week, made Hopper feel like a priority. He said previous Auburn tight ends coach Scott Fountain told him he was at the top of their tight ends board.
"Coach Porter's a great coach, I believe," the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Hopper said. "I think he's going to help Auburn as far as improving their tight ends. The tight ends are good, but he can get them better at different things."
Hopper also thought it was neat that offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey was once the head coach at Lassiter High, a region rival of Roswell.
Hopper, who is ranked as the nation's No. 11 tight end, said Auburn can use him in a variety of different ways, including as an H-back. He can block or split out as a receiver.
It was Hopper's third visit to Auburn. He went to a camp before his sophomore year and to Auburn's home game against Vanderbilt last season.

Georgia LB Michael Harris Lands Big SEC Offers (Rivals)
It seems like Auburn has jumped on some of these unheralded guys early and they have blown up after. Especially at LB with Nathaniel Watson, Channing Tindall and Michael Harris. Hopefully that pays off down the road
quote:
THE LATEST: Tucker (Ga.) linebacker Michael Harris has seen his recruitment take off in recent weeks with new offers from Auburn, Colorado State, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest among others.
The 6-foot-2, 210 pound hard-hitting junior has emerged as one of the top prospects in the Peach State for 2018 and his offer list is only going to get bigger.
Auburn's linebacker coach Travis Williams spoke with Harris and 'T-Will' is the one who offered for the Tigers. Harris does not know too much about Auburn yet, but he wants to check them out.
"Coach Williams talked to me about how he likes my film, how he started hearing big things about me in December and how he likes how explosive I am," said Harris. "I have watched Auburn on T.V. and things like that and I like how their defense plays fast.
"I plan to get over to Auburn on March 4 to see what it is like."

KN had VIP update on the OL at Apopka 4* William Barnes and NR Ed Montilus. The two claim they want to play together but as of now the only leader they share is Auburn. Barnes has the Gators as the leader with AU & UNC chasing. Montilus has top 2 of AU & MIA. Sounds like both plan to come visit during spring practice. Barnes says he speaks some with Chandler Cox who says good things about AU. Also worth noting that former teammate Martez Ivey is at UF as well
I just don't see the package deal happening. Right now I think Barnes goes to UF and Montilus to Miami but we will see. Need to get em both back on campus again

For Brahms, another honor (247)
quote:
Nick Brahms enrolled at Auburn in January, but he’s still getting recognized for his work in high school.
Brahms, a 4-star offensive lineman and U.S. army All-American, was honored last Friday as the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at the 48th annual All Sports Association Banquet -- an organization based in the Florida panhandle.
What did he do to earn this award?
According to Keith Brahms, his son graduated Navarre High School in Florida with a 4.59 GPA.
“He only had one ‘B’ in high school in one quarter of one semester in one class,” said Keith Brahms. “All the way though school, that is the only ‘B’ he ever made.”
Per the Northwest Florida Daily News, “Brahms (ranked) No. 4 in his senior class of 545 students.” Additionally, he completed more than 150 hours of community service.
The ceremony took place in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Miami Hurricanes coach Mark Richt was the featured speaker that evening.
“It was a tremendous honor,” Keith Brahms said. “We’re really excited about it. Nick is getting recognized for all of his hard work that really started when he entered school.”
The younger Brahms is studying professional aviation and will minor in business. His father is a pilot for Delta.
At Auburn, Nick is “already flying,” his father said.
You can learn more about the All Sports Association HERE.
At the recent U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Brahms received the Doc Blanchard Award, which is given to a player on the East squad who displays excellence in the class.

T-Will trusted his evaluation on Wooten (Rivals)
quote:
Travis Williams evaluated Chandler Wooten on film, watched him during a spring practice and brought him in for an unofficial visit.
That’s all Auburn’s linebacker coach needed to conclude Wooten was one of the top linebackers in the South and to put him near the top of the Tigers’ recruiting board.
“I penciled him in and he was the guy I wanted. I wanted Chandler Wooten,” Williams said. “He committed in the spring. He was a guy I really trusted the evaluation on and off the field. Great kid, great family. He's a kid that was raised right. I don't have to chase him to class. He loves football and he's a really, really good football player.”

Auburn leads for big DT (Rivals)
Good bet to be next commit if we are willing to take him right now. Curious to see how many DL we take this season as we are starting off in better shape for some guys this year but don't lose a ton off the line this year. AT DT I know AU is in the top group for Porter, Coynis Miller, D'Andre Litaker and Breiden Fehoko. Probably could land 4* Alfred Thomas too if we offered.
quote:
Timajé Porter grew up an Auburn fan, and his allegiance to the Tigers still stands.
It’s why Porter, a big defensive tackle from Theodore, has Auburn atop his early list of favorites.
“Auburn is my top school right now,” Porter said. “I’ve always liked Auburn. I grew up a fan and Auburn has never left my heart.”
Porter is familiar with Auburn, which helps the Tigers’ efforts with the in-state standout. Porter has visited Auburn several times, including twice last season for games against Clemson and LSU.
Porter also is familiar with Auburn’s coaches. He has developed relationships with defensive line coach Rodney Garner and area recruiter Travis Williams.
“I really like Coach Garner a lot,” Porter said. “And Coach T-Will is real cool. I like all of the coaches.”
Porter plans to return to Auburn in the spring to watch the Tigers practice. He also plans trips in the spring to Florida, Mississippi State and South Alabama.
Porter lists Auburn, LSU, Florida, Penn State and Michigan as his top schools. He hopes to make a commitment to one before the start of his senior season.
“I’m thinking that if my heart is set, I’ll do it either at my spring game in March or in May,” Porter said. “If not, I’ll probably wait until the summer.”
Porter, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 315 pounds, averaged nearly four tackles per game last season as a junior.

Grading this week's assistant coaching hires (Rivals)
quote:
Larry Porter – North Carolina to Auburn
Local take: “Gus Malzahn needed to hire a coach with a reputation as an elite recruiter, specifically one who could give Auburn a strong presence again in South Florida. Malzahn found his man in Larry Porter. The former LSU and North Carolina assistant is a two-time Rivals.com Recruiter of the Year, and will recruit Miami and Atlanta for Auburn, which historically are two of the Tigers' most productive areas. Porter can coach. He can recruit. He's one of Malzahn's best hires at Auburn.” – Jeffrey Lee, AuburnSports.com
Farrell’s take: “Porter was our National Recruiter of the Year twice while at LSU, landing numerous five-stars and he has recruiting ties all over the place, including Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee and many other areas. This is a hire, in my opinion, that will help Auburn in a huge way.” – Farrell
Farrell’s grade: A

Finally got around to looking at Michael Harris highlight film. He's unrated guy we offered recently and starting to get a bunch of attention. Holy crap that dude is an animal. Might be my favorite Lb target so far outside of Walker

That's a pretty good tape. I'd have no problem taking him.

Clemson DT Scott Pagano is transferring as a grad transfer. Would be HUGE if we could get him or the the DT from Texas Tech

Almost no chance considering we play Clemson next year. Dabo has to sign off on his transfer and he is t going to let him play against Clemson

I think w/ graduate transfers you can go wherever you want.

I think you maybe mistaken, as a graduate he can go anywhere he wants, the coach has no control EXCEPT in the SEC where the graduates are not to transfer with conference.

Those would be huge pickups. We should probably go after a GT CB as well.

Whose ready for some early 2018 sunshine pumping? KN has a new insider up and to sum it all up: we gettin errybody!
- If NSD were today the belief is 4* DT Coynis Miller would pick AU. He and his mom are apparently very close with Rodney Garner and having Moultry here helps. Moultry is staying in AU for spring break and chance Miller comes and hangs out with him some that week. The main threat tho is of course Bama. KN says his recruitment is already hotly contested. Sounds like family split on where they would prefer as well. This will be a battle all year but as of right now AU seems like the favorite
- 4* TE Tyneil Hopper might have AU just barely in front of UNC after recent visit but it's close. His brother plays LB for Tar Heels
- KN says recruiting board still a bit in air as staff evaluates current crop of players and then do their in person evaluations when they can visit in April. But he says 4* LB Quay Walker has emerged as a clear top choice. FSU & UGA also in play
- Apparently confidence is pretty high for 4* OG Jalil Irvin. Michigan (he was committed to them before) is considered the #1 threat. He visiting there this weekend but expected back at AU soon
- Growing thought that AU could possibly land both 4* WR Justyn Ross and 4* WR Seth Williams. Emphasis on possibly but right now AU feels pretty good about both. Apparently Williams is a good culture fit and staff feels like passing game this fall will be enticing for him
So there ya have it we taking all the top instate guys from Alabama
