UGA has under performed on the recruiting trail for years. Not the case right now.

From a recruiting standpoint, UGA hit the goldmine with Smart. The guy has been an ace recruiter entire career, he is a UGA alum which helps the pitch and can point to Alabama's defense as his track record

Gus used to have sway due to his reputation, but now that it is a question mark he isn't going to close any kids

Underperforming in the state of Georgia means being a lock for 10-12 4*+ in state alone. They rake in Florida and along the east coast.

Losing out on Tre McKitty sucks but we are light years ahead of where we were last year at this point and we're coming off a worse season. We don't use the TE positing enough for this to bend me out of shape

And even if we did, we brought in an elite TE last class in Rice, not like we are hurting in the area.

Even Lutzie didn't have a high usage rate. I just wanted a McKitty on our team.

I have to say it's pretty discouraging when our two biggest rivals are absolutely dominating recruiting right now.

Why? Both have pretty obvious recruiting advantages over Auburn, in general, namely being state schools.

I do have the sense that Georgia is about to run away with the rivalry. They have had mediocre years leading to Richt heading to Miami yet they still had a 8-2 record over Auburn the past decade. Now they have a coach that can probably lock down the state.

They'll never lock down the state, sans an Alabama-esque run of titles. TOO many great players GA. This love-fest of Smart will only lead to recruiting classes if he ends up a good head coach.

I remember these same things being said when Muschamp went to UF. Like KK said though, way too many kids in GA for them to get everyone.

Except this time we are actually 2-8 against Georgia the past decade and seemingly, both programs heading into different directions. One has hype, the other has a hot seat.

This will be true until the season starts. If we perform on both sides of the ball we will have a stellar year, if not we have bigger problems.

His teams are going to be so stacked he's not going to have to be a great coach for them to win big.

You hear the same argument for every coach that goes to Texas, USC, Florida, or Michigan. They were all looking for new coaches in the past 5 years.

Despite hiring some terrible coaches, the talent in these programs still have them winning big some years and more than the coaching ability would suggest

Florida: Every coach at Florida since Zook has made a SEC CG
USC: Averaged 9wins/yr despite heavy sanctions + drug addict coach
Michigan: Won 3 more games than Auburn in past 5 years
Texas: Even during Mack Browns death spiral he won 8+ 4/5 years

This does not equal

Randy said you don't have to be a great coach to win big. Going to BCS bowl games, multiple 10+ seasons and other accomplishments is pretty impressive given how bad their coaches were.

Those solid performances were from these terrible past coaches who are looking to the gutter for job opportunities

Lane Kiffin: Can't find HC positions
Steve Sarkisian: Drug addict in rehab
Brady Hoke: Can't find HC position
Muschamp: Backup option for lower tier SEC program
Mack Brown: Old man

muschamp didn't make the seccg

every coach at auburn has been to the seccg since its inception. not sure any other program can say that.

That's against the point. The point was that we sucked against Georgia's mediocre teams, how do we expect to compete if they recruit better and are better coached? When does the 2-8 trend end? I'm asking for a friend...
