PER LSU 247

Per Shea Dixon ...

***** What’s up with Lowell Narcisse? He dropped his commitment on Monday, citing the reality that LSU didn’t have an offensive coordinator in place and he wanted to really look around a final time before enrolling in college next month. He told me then that he plans to announce a decision at the Under Armour All-American Game, and LSU, Memphis and Auburn are the teams in the mix. But from talking to a couple different sources close to Narcisse’s recruitment, things changed again after LSU hired Canada and Narcisse got to speak with him over the phone. Barring a shift in momentum, I now expect LSU to land Narcisse and him enroll in Baton Rouge in January. I’m told the Canada hire has him comfortable with his decision, and he’s been close with Ed Orgeron, Dameyune Craig and Jabbar Juluke. I wouldn’t be shocked if he didn’t wait until the Under Armour Game and just did it sooner. We will see there, but I feel good again about LSU’s chances. And a side note, for those thinking either of these quarterbacks is scared off by the other, just know that they text and talk a good bit. They have become pretty close through being LSU commits and being together at Elite 11 and all that. I think both of them want that chance to compete against each other at the school they both want to go to.

****

Now, from the Auburn side --- am told AU continues to like it's chances.

Should be a battle to the end.

Watched the guys film and I'm not recruiter or college football coach but he looks tailor made for Gus's offense. Looks really similar to Nick Marshall except maybe a little bigger. May come down distance.

Honestly, between WB and JS, I just don't see him playing over either. Both are more talented. He should go to LSU.

ETA:

I think Thompson would be a better project QB if that's what we are after.

He is an EE. He'll be here for Spring Ball.

I'm concerned about LN's knees and mobility long term because I believe his success in the SEC will rise on his ability to be an elite athlete at QB ala the formentioned Nick Marshall. Not sure he can get by with pinpoint accuracy like White has been able to do

His arm strength is slightly above average. NM could sling the deep ball, which helped his rushing. I don't see LN having this ability.

Narcisse is a bonus at this point. Don't get me wrong it will stink to miss out on him but with Stidham we can afford to miss

With that said LSU's sources have been off in recent weeks on Narcisse. Shea was skeptical he would even officially visit AU saying LSU had nailed the in home. Then after the visit said he wouldn't read too much into it because LSU got the last one and they were confident they could lock him down then. Night before guy on LSU recruiting board who knows the family says he's all LSU. Then he decommits the next day. It's pretty clear Narcisse has kept things close to the chest or at least told those around him what they wanna hear. Probably still a 50/50 battle

In the end it's gonna come down to heart vs mind. No doubt that he fits better at AU and has a better relationship with Lashlee. And if he was honest with himself would probably agree that a redshirt year would be good especially after 2 blown ACLs. But it's also clear that he would love to stay close to home and play at probably his childhood favorite school.

Gun to head I think he sticks with LSU but I don't think it's a lock either way right now

3* FB Chase Lasater says AU is his leader right now. Plans to officially visit on January 20th. From the way he talks I expect he commits soon after that trip. Will be good to have a FB to backup Cox next season

frick that.

We had ONE QB. ONE. That could throw a forward pass this season for a completion and he's made out of glass. If WB was worth a shite, he'd have played at Georgia. Please spare the the redshirt BS.

Auburn football: Resetting the Tigers’ 2017 recruiting class (SECCountry)
quote:

Are any commits wavering?

The big one to watch was Tray Bishop. That de-commitment dropped earlier in the week. Auburn will still chase there, but the Tigers appear to be playing behind Georgia and Florida at this point.

Aside from that, things look relatively stable for Auburn. There are a few commits to keep an eye on, however.

—5-star OL Calvin Ashley: He received plenty of attention from Herb Hand during the contact period. Gus Malzahn will likely go to Washington D.C. for a closer to Signing Day in-home. Maryland, Florida and Florida State will continue to push. But Ashley might be as solid now as he’s ever been.

—4-star ATH Alaric Williams: He claims to be all Auburn, but he has taken an official visit to Nebraska. Cornhuskers coaches have taken a few in-home visits, too. Williams also has an ACT score bar that he needs to reach. Again, not a huge worry, but something to consider.

—4-star RB Devan Barrett: Here’s another running back who I expect to end up at Auburn. Clemson will likely get an official visit. Oregon and Barrett’s south Florida relationship with Willie Taggert could give the Ducks and outside chance.

—3-star DB Carlito Gonzalez: The Wesley McGriff departure turned this guaranteed commit into something a little less sure. Gonzalez will keep a close eye on McGriff’s replacement. South Carolina could be a team to watch if Gonzalez doesn’t have the vibe he wants with the new position coach.

—3-star ATH Octavius Matthews: He originally planned to enroll early. Academics prevented that. His grades in the spring will be the primary factor that keeps him from Auburn. Matthews plans to take official visits to Louisville and Western Kentucky in January.

Auburn recruiting: Nick Brahms talks enrolling early, rehab and All-American Bowl trip (SECCountry)
quote:

Brahms, who officially signed with Auburn earlier this week, has been in a long recovery process since the injury in August. He’s excited about the chance to continue his rehab with the Tigers’ strength and conditioning staff.

“That’ll be huge. I’ve lost a lot of weight. I’m looking skinny,” Brahms said with a laugh. “But I’ll gain it back. I’ll be better than ever and stronger than ever with them. I think it’s huge. (Auburn strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell) knows what he’s doing.”

Brahms will arrive at Auburn on Jan. 8 — one day after the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. He’ll come straight to the Plains from the Lone Star State.

The offensive guard earned his invitation to the bowl game in April, just as his recruitment started to take off. He picked up 35 scholarship offers in a short amount of time as a high-rising recruit.

“That was a dream come true, man,” Brahms said of his invite. “I remember growing up and watching those games on TV, man, and thinking about how much I wanted to do that when I got to that level playing football. It was a dream come true when I got invited. I won’t be able to play, but it’ll be a good experience. I can’t wait.”

All of our RB commits are looking and two has grades concerns. And only one of the three (Barrett) looks like an SEC capable back.

With Pettway coming back it's less concerning.

Pettway
Johnson
Martin
Miller
Barrett
Williams
(Matthews, maybe)

That should get us by. Alaric isn't going to flip with our depth chart being what it is. Matthews doesn't look solid to qualify which is why I'm betting he's looking at schools that maybe a little easier to get into

I'm not really concerned. I think it is weird that we have had so much success running the ball with Malzahn, but yet top talent still isn't lining up to run the ball for us.

You would think that if there was ever one position that Auburn should have elite recruits year after year it would be RB. Definitely odd but credit to Gus for still having tremendous success with good but not elite RBs.

Barrett is elite... a top 20 RB nationally.
