There's a live thread up discussing AL/MS check in day. Some quotes from it

quote:

Plans to visit Tennessee and Ole Miss in January. Unless the visit to Oxford is a game-changer I really like the Vols here.

- Steve Wiltfong on 3* QB Bubba Thompson

quote:

Kenney Britt rolled into the lobby here and is built like he's in the NFL. Impressive looking LB. SHould be a great group of LBs here at this event.

- Barton Simmons

quote:

Moultry may be a five-star. Looking forward to seeing him.

KN says Ole Miss tried to push for 4* ATH Malcolm Askew but doesn't look like it worked. Askew says he won't be visiting them and them not having a DC made it hard for him to even consider them.

Something though I am sure Bama fans will love is he says that he has heard a lot from the Tide. But I thought he was a problem child that no one would want?

Askew has been about all you could ask for in a recruit... committed relatively early... has remained loyal... enrolling early to go through some bowl practice and spring... and he's helped recruit guys for us.

But we suck at 'cruitin? amirite?

Williams will have to build his relationships...and such.

We will miss Craig...and his great WR corps each year.

Best thing that happened to Gus last year was LSU taking DC off his hands. Not saying that it winds up best for AU, but in the short term, Gus has to be thrilled.

Really hoping when this defensive staff gets a full year to recruit they can land some of these big fish instead of playing from behind all year

Why didn't they get a full year to recruit this year? They were around last Feb

I agree that they had a full year but I think JR's point about "relationship building" is probably bigger than we realize.

McGriff hadn't been on the recruiting trail since 2011 while TWill/Kodi had never been P5 off site recruiters. All 3 should be excellent recruiters, but building relationships with recruits, coaches and communities takes time

Add in Herb Hand who had been at Penn St, extensively involved in SE recruiting

From a recruiting standpoint, I really like this staff... there's not necessary an "ace" recruiter now that Craig is gone, but I think pretty much everybody on staff is a "plus" recruiter (as in better than average).

Will take officials to Stanford, Auburn, Texas and Alabama in January. May squeeze the fifth one in as well. Texas trip is a mid-week trip.

High-academic kid that talks to David Shaw a lot.

Gus Malzahn has been a real presence here as well.

Notre Dame trying to make a late push and perhaps could get a mid-week official as well.

Wants to major in engineering.

Alabama getting that last official.

Tom Herman has been real active here for Texas since getting hired. A lot of head coach recruiting going on here.

- We are still team to beat for Stidham however the major concern for us is Kendal Briles. If he lands a solid OC gig like there are rumors he might AU could struggle to land him. He does speak with Lashlee daily and Gus a lot. Plan is to visit him Thursday this week

So in other words, Gus needs to do what he should:

1) Fire Lashlee
2) Hire Kendal
3) Sign Stidham
4) Offseason
5) 2017 Profit

So apparently LSU might not have an OC named by their bowl game. If that's true that would really help us with Narcisse. I am gonna make the bold prediction that if they don't have OC in place by this weekend he signs with AU....

With the caveat that I am this is mostly a mixture of wishful thinking and wild guessing

I've been saying this for months.

Although, if we miss, Malik Zaire would be an incredible consolation prize...

I've heard this as well. Especially a FB.

I get taking another FB since Cox seems to not have it down yet but could be great when he does and Pettway is moved out of it. Why are we bothering with 2 tight ends? Do they plan on changing the offense to even have them on the field now? I rarely notice when we put one on the field, much less two or three of them.

I'm thinking its some hybrid TE/FB.

Gus has always used fullbacks and TEs interchangeably... even going back to 2009.

I'll disagree with you here. The difference in the run game this season IMO was Cox. He looked totally lost in the first three games. After that, he was really hitting people and picking up blitzers.

I kind of see us making an offer to Cox's clone sort of speak. Whoever that may be.
