quote:And that goes for nearly every juco QB every year. We did not offer Cam til mid December.
Jay Tate basically said Evans likely won't have an offer until around the Iron bowl of he gets one

quote:It's possible we do but that's not what Gene is saying. Also contrary to what Franklin said it may not be a real offer. It may still be a noncommitable offer.
That makes sense besides the fact that we just offered a guy.
Are you saying we'll use Fanklin as a WR?
Also Gus and Rhett may have finally decided to not just try to adapt to any QB they can get and start trying to get exclusively dual guys since they have been more comfortable coaching that style. Evan has great pass numbers but I'm not sure how good a runner he is.

That has to be what he's saying for it to make any sense. You can't make the argument that Evans doesn't have an offer from us because JUCO QBs don't get offered until later when we have a JUCO QB with an offer.
Obviously it might not be a real offer but for discussion we assume it is a real committable offer.
The argument is why does Franklin have an offer when Evans doesn't
The answer would have to be:
A. Talent/fit
B. Academics
C. Character issues
D. Franklin is being offered as a ATH/WR rather than a QB
B and C don't seem to apply here so it's really down to two reasons. I've heard nothing about him being offered as an ATH/WR type so I assume it's Talent/fit

Air Force run a flexbone triple option offense, so he must be able to run if they recruited him.
Granted that is not what we run, but the idea is similar.

This is fine but I think White could be a really good quarterback for us. I hate to see us essentially throw him away bringing in a guy for one or two years that is just another runner. If we decide to go the exclusive run first quarterback mold, then go ahead and tell White and Queen to transfer out and clear some roster room.
I am starting to think that Gus just isn't creative enough to run the ball without the running quarterback.

Then how did Ben Tate run for 1300 yards in 2009? Odd... The offense was pretty even that year. We passed for 220 yards a game and ran for 212.
Barber is on pace to have a better season than Tate did. Kerryon and Roc combined are putting up the same numbers that O-Mac did off the bench in 2009.
White so far has been much more accurate passing than Todd was in 09 and definitely has more "it" factor and potential than Todd.
I think you guys are looking too much into recruiting these JUCO guys. White is our guy and if we bring in a JUCO QB then it's for depth. If White goes down next year we would have JJ who is a head case, redshirt freshman Tyler Queen, and true freshman Woody Barrett. Both those freshmen are projects and I wouldn't be surprised to see JJ move to TE this offseason, especially if one of these JUCO guys comes in.

let me rephrase then, I don't think he is creative enough to have a top tier running attack without a running quarterback. Currently, we are hovering around the 50th mark in the country in rushing per game. Right now, we are averaging about 183 yards per game, that is nearly 30 yards a game less than 2009.

Honestly I think it's because we were still running a true HUNH then and were one of the first to do so so defenses had not adjusted the way they have now.

We likely are recruiting Franklin as an athlete who will get a shot at QB just like Jason SSmith did
If we offer Evans it is just to play QB. You don't offer JUCO QBs for depth

quote:I rarely make that assumption. I almost always wait til a AU reporter gets info on a recruit being a take. AUC & AUR have not reported the status of the offer yet.
but for discussion we assume it is a real committable offer.

The answer would have to be:
A. Talent/fit

C. Character issues
D. Franklin is being offered as a ATH/WR rather than a QB
E. QB style. The staff may be all in finally on dual QBs and may consider JF3 to be the better running threat.

Like I said you make the assumption just for the sake of discussion. It doesn't matter if it's true or not.
No I didn't miss style. That goes in Talent/fit
