I was about to say, if he is hooking up with cougars for recruit's signatures, he must be limpdicking because we haven't got a whole lot of recruits lately.
And what is this about USCe getting a commitment from a 4 star DE when they aint even got a coach. WTF man. We can't even bagman our way to a 4 star DE right now.

It is Darius Whitfield, younger brother of Bama OL Josh Casher.
You may remember Josh Casher as the guy who was committed to Auburn, flipped to Alabama, started telling Auburn he wanted to get back on board but never actually doing it. Finally we pulled the plug and said we were done.
He supposedly has a lot of very mixed opinions on his talent level. He isn't quick enough for DE but he supposedly won't have the frame to be DT. If he was any good, he would have a Bama offer

AU will visit Clemson commit LB Tre Lamar Friday and attend his HS game. Lamar says he appreciates AU keeping in touch but he appears very firm to Clemson. He doesn't have any visits set up and has already been to 3 Clemson games this fall.

I don't think he is that good is the thing. He may be borderline but screw that.
We would never be comfortable with him because he would flip to Bama whenever they want him. Not worth filling a slot with that risk and have other recruits get scared off

that the one that was one of that top centers that year? we ended up with Dampeer I think to replace him.
That kid was a turd that wanted that Bama scholarship.
Apparantly that Whitfield kid isn't rocking a whole lot of offers from the looks of it. Almost all the CBs are for Bama but one was for South Alabama. He claims to have a bunch of high level offers but chose to commit to a team whose coach literally just retired last night. Strange indeed.

We were recruiting Casher as a center because he's only like 6'1. Bama sold him on the fact that he could play guard.
He's now a center for Bama. Trolololo

Whitfield is a low 3* by 247 and a 3* composite. He isn't good

You have an opinion, but non of that is right. The product on the field is directly related to Ellis being a below average coach, him not recruiting, and Gus not keeping tabs on him. There are 10 million people in the triangle of Auburn, Birmingham, and Atlanta. There is no excuse for the shitty D. Our coaches have been average, to below average defensive coaches. We need to produce a quality product, and we will get recruits.

I was talking in context of us having "insane" classes. We won't get a class of "elite recruits" if we don't start winning.
I don't think we disagree here really. My only point was that we won't have "insane classes" if we don't start winning. We have a lower floor in recruiting than say UF/FSU
**ETA: development and scouting is more important than HS Diva rankings anyways

Spurrier said it best in his presser today or yesterday. In college football today being a good recruiter is just as important if not more so than being a good coach.
You have one or two years of missing on top targets or taking projects instead of guys that can help you immediately and it's going to show on the field.

Bringing tidings of good news boiz!!!!
On Marlon Davidson wearing the Alabama gear:
Garner doing work, no worries. All is well.
On Marlon Davidson wearing the Alabama gear:
quote:
Davidson, a 5-star Auburn defensive end commit from Greenville High School, was spotted last week wearing another Alabama jacket, but there’s a reason for it.
“It’s nothing to freak out about,” Davidson told the AJC’s SECCountry.com. “It was just a day that I was coming up here to be dressed up as your favorite teacher. One of my teachers always has on something Alabama — either some Alabama shoes, shirt, shorts, anything. That’s why I did it — to come here and dress like him. We took pictures before school and put them on the teacher’s wall, so to me, it wasn’t a big deal. I’m still committed to Auburn.”
It was a big deal to Auburn’s coaching staff, though, because defensive line coach Rodney Garner reached out to his prized recruit to ask him about his clothing choice.

Almost every starter on our defense is a high 4* or 5* player. Ironically, this is especially true in our front 7.

Recruiting sites, YouTube, camps and Bigger budgets have made "under the radar" even more rare and difficult to find.
There is a threshold where you need to have a certain amount of talent to win. You don't need to be the most talented though. There is a reason Baylor, Oregon, TCU, Michigan St, Utah are all near the top recently.
A well coached team with talent is better than a poorly coached team with elite talent

Yup, talent is not the issue on the interior dline.
Devaroe Lawrence was a 4* composite
Andrew Williams highly rated 4*
Devonte Lambert 4*
Dontavius Russell 4*
Monty 5*
Tyler Nero 4*
Gabe 4*
Blackson Composit 4*

Did that Imatorbhebhe (sp?) kid from North Gwinnett still have any interest in us? Any chance we can get another look from him with Sark out at USC?
