Maybe AU *is* trying to convince him to play LB and he doesn't want to?
This would be the only reason it would make sense to me. This is one time that I hope I got bad info!

Saying "but I would rather have a good D" after saying "If up to me, I'd sign him", was more trying to convince myself it was okay more than anyone else.

No, but Malzahn should recruit him as he is the head coach and has ultimate say with regards to who receives an offer.

Sorry, but I'm not in the business of kicking away a highly athletic legacy recruit with a great frame and outstanding bloodlines because he may or may not fit the scheme of a DC who is here because he sees it as a stepping stone job before he ultimately takes the next decent HC job that comes his way.

You follow recruiting long? By the end of this cycle we're going to be struggling to fill our class with kids we really want. Come back to me when we're handing a scholarship to a scrub like Jonathan Wallace or Markell Benton to sit on the bench for 5 years. I'd much rather take the chance on a better prospect like Davis Jr. somehow finding a role whether the DC be Muschamp, or someone else.

Preach.

I just can't wait for us to hear a month from signing day how we are trying to get back in it for SDjr because we reevaluated and liked him more
I could be wrong but I don't see Boom & T-Rob doing that here. I think it's more likely he'd be a legacy that does well somewhere else & we get mad because our staff passed on another legacy who panned out.

I just seem to remember that the kid has previously said that he wants to play S and wants no part of transitioning to another position.

He's also 17 at most. When I was 17 I said I wanted no part in ever working at a restaurant. Guess where I worked for 3 years during college? A freaking restaurant.

Since when do coaches recruit a kid and not lie about projected position?

Kris Frost, Rudy Ford, Jason Smith, and Kam Pettway all come to mind just from our team
W/ all due respect our staffs did not lie to any of those kids. Frosty was always preferred at LB by the AU staff while recruited. Other staffs liked him @ WR.

Rudy got a short shot @ RB but was always open to playing DB.

Jason Smith came to the staff himself to initiate the move to WR. The staff was giving him a fair look @ QB to that point.

Pettway was recruited as a tail back only. He had a full season there to try to impress coaches before being moved to HB. I don;t consider that lying. Lying would have been to move him to HB during the season given we weren't getting much production at that position.

that if we sign SDjr. that he would spend most of his career at AU without Muschump who'll have moved on.

Seriously, who would hire Muschamp, as a HC, in the next few years? I could see a New Mexico St. taking a shot..........maybe. Bruce Pearl will be gone before Muschamp is. BOOM needs to get his kind of players in here. Jr. may or may not be a fit in his D.

I would bet money that if we are good, Muschamp gets a HC position from a Virginia Tech, UVA, NC St, UNC type ACC program. Think about it logically, Muschamps only real failure as HC was his atrocious offenses maybe a little roster management.

So Muschamp leaves AU with either DCraig or Lashlee in tow to run a Gus style proven offense and TRob as DC.

Both Lashlee and DCraig are "OCs" of proven top offenses and would be looking to get out from Gus' shadow. It is an easy sell to them and universities will clearly see the plan to solve Muschamps issues

My point is, Muschamp only would have to sell people that Lashlee or Craig are good enough to run an offense

universities will see hiring Lashlee who has playcalling experience at Samford quasi at AU and prolific offenses as a near sure thing. Lashlee would see it as an opportunity step out from Gus on path to HC

Dcraig obviously is second option but has experience developing QBs which obviously plagued muschamp, recruits and likely will have a unique approach for prostyle GusStyle hybrid.

AUC notes LINK

-4* juco OT Garett Bolles will visit AU on May 29
-AU likes where things stand right now

-4* DT Tyler Clark will commit Friday
-UGA heavy favorite
-TC will still likely come to BCW even if he picks UGA
-he wants to take more visits

-AU saw 4* QB Woody Barrett & 4* WR Tre Nixon yesterday
-WB may commit in June
-AU is a contender for both

-T-Rob saw 4* Safety Nigel Warrior & 2017 5* CB Deangelo Gibbs
-DG is 90% sure he'll be @ BCW

-AU is expected to see 5* DT Dexter Lawrence, 5* LB Keion Joyner, & 3* RB Carlin Fils-Aime today

-AU appears to be doing some work on 3* CB Jalen Elliott
-he told AUC to put AU as warm on his 247 profile
-AU likely 1 of 4 standing out (Va. Tech, UGA, & UVA)
-he will be @ BCW

-AU feels it has made up major ground on 3* CB UGA commit Tyrique McGhee
-Will know more after he comes to BCW

-big gap between UGA & AU for Julian Rochester
-looks like he will commit soon
-he may come to BCW

-a name to track is 4* DE Patrick Bethel

-Per a respected HS coach Boom appears to enjoy being back out on the recruiting front
-Boom appears to be in his comfort zone now than when he was a HC

-multiple sources say AU remains a major player for Nate Craig-Myers
-Duke's performance this year will be a major factor

Per LSU 247 sources say LSU still leads for 4* CB Trayvon Mullen who is a top AU target. He will be @ BCW LINK

A different top 2 for Jawon Pass? By: Keith Niebuhr

The QB told us last week Auburn and Louisville were his co-leaders ... but Ryan Bartow of 247 continues to hear differently.

Sources tell him Bama and UNC are in front. LINK Another strange recruitment ....

Adding to that Bartow says Bama and UNC have been leading since January. Pass is going on a visit to bama the first of June and bringing at least 10 family members. Barrow said look for a verbal soon after that or around the Opening late June.

All per a source of Bartows "very famialar" with the recruitment of Pass.

I hope his source is wrong.

North Carolina, per a source, is working to line up a multiple day visit for Pass shortly thereafter (the Bama visit).

Strange that the source says two different schools are leading than what Pass himself said.

I've said it ten times before, Jawon Pass' recruiting is a circus.

It won't end anytime soon.
