your wanting a guy AU already moved on from and you knew that. It's more on the overall you've been a nega. I'm not hating on you. It's just an entertaining reality...And there's nothing wrong with being nega. It brings balance to The Force.
I don't "know" anything. I take everything I read on message boards with a grain of salt. Of course if we get Key, Cowart, Prince etc... Walker doesn't really matter. But who knows how it will shake it out with those guys. I just want good players and to be good on defense again.

Being 5'10 & 5'11 is significantly different than being 5'8. Not only from a height standpoint, but also from a length standpoint.
Height isn't that crucial at Safety. Bob Sanders was the best Safety in the league prior to injuries derailing his career and he was 5'8. As you mentioned; the current best Safety is 5'10 and Matt Elam is actually a hair under 5'10 as well.
If Irvin can play, which clearly appears to be the case considering how hard they are going after him, then the ~5'8 shouldn't stunt him too hard.

Three of 5-star CeCe Jefferson’s primary recruiters are now together in one place - Auburn. LINK … @Auburn247

Per KN there may be some questions about how fast Ryan Davis actually is. Probably why things have cooled on him lately.

Also, Matt Elam measured in at 5'10 at the combine. He was a 5* player and one of the top 25 players in 2010. To compare every short safety to him is asinine.
quote:Hey, I hope he turns into an AA if he comes here. He looks to have great athletic ability. Extremely smooth runner, quick, fast, and good leaping ability.

I respect your opinion and input Joey but Boom and Strong are 2 of the best defensive minds in college football and I value both their opinions on Irvin more. Both recruited see him as a nickel and safety. For Boom that could mean be a 3rd CB many times with so much spread formations in college football now.

He's 17. It's not out of the question he could grow a few inches in college. I just want football players. The lack of agression and physicality on D last year was concerning.

This is something Randy will want to see for the 2016 class. Thompson was the lead bama recruiter on major AU targets Derrick Brown, Julian Rochester, Antwuan Jackson and secondary on Ben Davis.

This isn't the NFL. The point is; if those guys can be elite NFL players at ~2 inches taller, do you seriously believe that an inch or two is going to determine whether Irvin can be an impact player in the SEC? Its not that big a deal, seriously.

He measured 5'9 and 7/8ths.

Per KN 247
Just chatted briefly with a well-respected person on our business, and he believes the Thompson hiring will help Auburn dramatically with 5-star DE CeCe Jefferson.
On thing about Thompson: He apparently is close with Jefferson's father -- and that is the most important person besides CeCe in this recruitment.
Mushcamp also is tight with the father.
I keep hearing Florida may not be at the moment.
Take that for what it's worth ....

I don't care if Tim Irvin can't make in the NFL though. I just want to see a solid S.
Here are guys since 2010 that have received AA honors from some place that are 5'10 and below
Jimmie Ward
Lemarcus Joyner
Matt Elam
Earl Thomas
Ahmad Black

Man. Can y'all imagine if all our top targets besides Irvin and Key wait til NSD to commit and do it for Auburn on tv. That could be 5 or 6 kids saying "I commit to Auburn" on national tv. That would be epic.

The University of Auburn will steal a few though, it always happens.

While epic, as an Auburn fan I don't want this plan. We probably would have 6 Cyrus K situations on our hands

I smile just thinking about the possibility

@HamiltonESPN: On #Texas commit Tim Irvin, hearing 90% chance he makes OV to #Auburn Jan. 16-18. Would obviously put the Tigers in the drivers seat.
